I travel with about 15 medications, non controlled substances. I’ve never carried them in the original containers (I’d need a separate suitcase!) but I do carry a photograph showing the containers in a separate bag (labels can be read) and I carry a batch of 2x2 baggies with one pill each & copy of Rx prescription in each bag. The only time I had a problem was when an agent grabbed my suitcase and pulled out a squeeze tube (OTC) and said (loudly!) What’s this? and I answered That’s my denture adhesive. His hand actually started shaking and he muttered, Oh uh, that’s medical, and beckoned me on.

In much travel the last 18 years I have never had any security in any country look at or question my daily medicine container.

@pinkey6141

I always put my meds in a pill holder. I do put all the meds in a clear gallon bag and ask if they want it out. I also print out my meds from my Mychart. I also take a pic of the prescription bottle with the pill.

@10flylady

This is great information!

TSA Cares has never provided my husband with a person to guide them through. But the agents have treated him better.

The designated tsa approved clear bag that I purchased at a drugstore (stamped with an airplane) I was told not acceptable.

The biggest issue is when people think they can hide some things from the X-ray machine. NO. you can't hide anything from the X-ray machine. A lead box surely can, but it will also guaranteed get you pulled aside for further inspection. So don't try to hide anything from scanning.

@gaillittle1700

I take the labels off my prescription bottles and put them on index cards, which I put in my passport cover. It has all info needed. I don't take bottles I take a pill organizer.

@BirdsNNVA

I’m concerned about travel in Japan. They say any extra pills beyond your length of stay will be flushed when you enter the country. But what about the extra 3-7 day supply you need in case of travel interruption?

@dolfantina4279

I got stopped at TSA for a tube of Voltaran for my arthritis. It was ok but it showed up as a metal tube in my carry-on

@krooks6367

I always have original packing of medicine and only the exact amount for the trip. Add doctors list of which medicine you use and if you have red list medicine- have that filled in and then NONE do anything to your medicine.

@Oversight-z8l

I flew for the first time with a card in my purse that blocks my credit card info from being swiped . I was pulled aside and they went thru everything in my purse so it must show up differently on their screens. It was a hassle.

@lazrus7049

had hoped this might have info on implanted medical metals. rods, screws, plates.

@Grullalover

In Canada medical stuff is exempt

@chrystya

@CarlyWiccanandColdplay

@zzcitizenzz

not interested in hearing about an incident that happened to somebody, just explain the rule and save the story.
