Cyber security interviewer: Do you have any experience? Me: Yes, 10 years experience of filling out these applications onlineš
If I had 15 years of experience, I would be applying for CEO
This is so true. I've been searching for 15 years just for one year of experience.
Nothing bugs me more than entry level positions requiring 10+ years of experience. Give these HR people a different job because dayum!
15 years = 1 year of actual experience + 14 years of slacking off
If I see one more entry level that requires CISSP (which requires 5 years of paid experience)....I'm going to scream lol
Just apply and talk to the hiring manager. Get that interview.
And they wonder why they need so many people in cyber security
Thatās when you apply anyway and spin any experience as experience
Dont get discouraged folks. As time goes on with A.I. becoming the norm cyber security will become the most in demand job in the world
When I got into nursing one thing they wanted was brand new inexperienced people because thatās how you mold the best employees.
I will never understand that. I just got my sec plus. I see entry level and at the same time they want 10 years of experience. WTF
8 years Cybersecurity experience here.. with a CIS degree and a cert (sec+) This still haunts me⦠but I would recommend still applying anyways. The current job I have (cybersecurity analyst) stated they wanted the individual to have their CISSP.. which I donāt have.. and still donāt have 3 years later after taking the position.(Govt position with one of our fine states..) Most job position posts are made by an HR individual with out a clue of what they really want or need.. so once again just apply. You never know. š¤·š½āāļø Edit: FYI, Been researching this topic a lot recently, the moment a YouTube channel puts out multiple interviews with people who have done what a lot of people (the audience) is attempting to do, aka get job in cyber, and tell their stories of how they did it⦠it will gain some momentum. But what do I know.. i just protect servers from hackers. Just a thought.
Every company needs to fire their HR department š
If anyone says they donāt have experience in IT, they probably never used a computer or even learned anything about it. For example, they donāt know to hook them up, set up WiFi, etc. I have over twenty years experience with computers but never at an actual IT jobā¦yet.
Once you learn that you are not applying to the job that is posted but the vacancy that is needed in the company you can work miracles at getting hired. If you have a hacker mindset.
It is very refreshing to see others are experiencing the same thing I am! We could start a ābeginners IT clubā-the rules to be part of it is you must have at least 5 years of dealing with these kind of job posts!!
Yep. This is literally it. I saw one the other day that wanted years of experience plus a Masters for an entry Level position. Like Seriously.
I donāt even understand how people in HR for any technology company can be allowed to require such BS, I have 10 years in IT, 20+ years in sales experience anywhere from cellular phones to cars, I also have an associates degree in Realty Management as both a realtor & as a broker & both residential properties & businesses. Then I came back into technology IT work because the pandemic killed the housing market now Iām also got 5 years in cybersecurity yet I see ads looking to hire people with no experience with pay from $120k - $220k . Itās a lie and itās that company that gets hacked by people like me & my friends. Just to show them how easy it can be. Thatās the only Ethical way to teach the lesson. Itās sad
