He means if a healthy tooth is knocked out accidentally, do not touch the root part, so to preserve as much as live cells as possible. Do not rinse with tap water , as there is chemicals which can damage the cells. Rinse with milk or saline, if not, just put the tooth in a ziploc bag and have the person spit into the bag so that you don't dry up the cells. ( Mother can spit into the bag too if it's your kid's tooth) The dentist will be able to re-plant the tooth into the socket if the cells on the root surfaces are kept alive.

Happened to my daughter. Had to take her her in, i had the tooth in milk but they told me to put it in her mouth, behind the bottom lip and make my way there. They got her back there asap. I would say it took about an hour or so till we got there as it happened at school, but in the end, they put the tooth back and added a metal brace which was removed after a week or so. The tooth is doing well so far. I say this to inform anyone who ever goes through this.

Real advice from an actual EMT: If your tooth falls out for whatever reason, put it in a glass of milk and head to an ER right away (Private vehicle or ambulance if you can’t drive yourself for any reason). The milk will protect the tooth and the ER has a good chance of being able to put it back in properly. Do not jab your tooth into your gums.
