I’m starting my own business. A little scary, but at 59, I am hoping for the best.
90's-2000's kids suffering for going to college, with a unfair start to life with debt, and no jobs for the degree.
As a black guy with NO tattoos, you're not wrong about that one, dude lol. Appearance matters. Especially in Corp America
I found my job by working through a temp agency. The company I temped for liked my work and hired me. Its not a "great job" but it pays the bills. I didn't get picky. Now I work 40 hours a week and at least know I can pay rent, food and pay bills. Not getting rich, not even middle American, but doing what I can.
I'm visiting Mexico right now and noticed that compared to Canada, there are so many more options for making money. You can literally sell massages or peanuts on the street. Part of the reason Canada and the US has no jobs is because of strict guidelines on everything! You aren't allowed to do anything!
Im 62yo. These younger folks seriously DO have it more difficult. Their college costs a lifetime of payment, cars cost an annual salary, rent is a monthly salary, inflation, and healthcare ins is $500/mo. On top of all that, they come out of college w what should be, a decent occupation but is irrelevant within 5 yrs.
These people with all the degrees can't find a job because they learned something that's no longer in demand
I’ve been in tech for 20 years. I was laid off in October. Hear me out, the job market is absolutely fked. MBAs cant even find jobs. I have no tattoos and I’m a college educated white guy.
It took my son almost a year after graduating college with a coding/ AI degree. He finally got one at the local hospital, and finally, He has a few family members that work there. That's the only reason he beat out 4 other candidates.
Companies aren't even meeting people in person so they wouldn't even know he has a neck tattoo.
Stop working so hard people. Really no point anymore. Work smart and just live for now. The leaders of this country have failed us. The American dream is mostly over. I just focus on now and what I have now. I stopped penny pinching and worrying so much about money. I still practice good spending habits but I don't focus too much on nickel and diming everything cause saving maybe a thousand dollars won't matter much when shit hits the fan cause money is going to burn up quickly if you go jobless anyways.
I dropped out at 16 and got my GED at 17. Got a job at a Plant at 21/hr and 8 years later at the same place an make 34/hr. Everything paid off with no debt, no real education.
Definitely NOT the time to quit your job. Also not the time to be overly-entitled and complaining to HR constantly.
Dad was a master engineer who was NEVER UNEMPLOYED!!! He used to say, "You know your Economy is in trouble when everyone is taking in each other's laundry!" He died in 2003 and was a very Godly man. I think our Modern World would horrify him, and I'm actually glad he didn't live to see it! As for me, I'm 50 years old, a widow (widowed at 28), raised two sons and bought a run-down 20 acre farm. I'm fixing it up and am about to begin a government course in my country, in horticulture. This is where the real security lies. Land, farming, food production. No one can ever take that away from you, you'll always have somewhere to live, you'll never starve and it's something the Beast ABSOLUTELY doesnt want you to do! So, go for it!!! God Bless You All!
The world is changing rapidly and not for the better. Get what you can now.
If you can't find a job for over a year, that's actual privilege. How are you surviving? When I was in my mid 20's and had $75 to my name, I took my piece of garbage car out and did doordash 12 hours a day. Nothing else existed. No friends, family, fun, nothing. Went home, showered, and did it again the next day. Sundays I did everything else and looked for a job.
My son is finishing his software year in college. He applied for 18 internships in construction management. He was offered one position and grabbed it. It’s $25 an hour and they’re flying him all over the country at the various job sites. He’ll have a mentor at each site. He tells his friends and they’re blown away, but they have no idea the effort it took to get the job. He’s definitely blessed and it’s hopefully the start of his career so when he graduates college, he’ll have a job . Young kids need to start thinking about this early on and carve their path.
Laser Tech here! I remove tattoos for a living and you are right. You are playing on hard mode if you get face, neck, or hand tattoos. My business is BOOMING 💰because of people's regrets. Tattoos in certain places will hold you back. Face tattoos are definitely a job-stopper or if you have a job it will keep your wages low.
My husband is experienced and has been in IT for 20 years, he has been out of work going on 7 months, the problem is AI when you send in your application the AI looks for buzz words, my husband had his resume redone professionally, he has his first interview coming up but that was hard to get, so I understand.
