@JohnnyOstad

Thank you Soooo much for watching! This video blew up by a lot more than I expected!
Here is a link to my game on STEAM if you are interested: http://tinyurl.com/36c24bay

@SimonSlav-MyGameMakingJourney

It's refreshing to see an honest developer who shares real numbers even when he didn't hit the jackpot

@golongself

Thanks for your insights. As a solo developer is hard to know what is the best place to spend your time, this really helps.

@SylphidUndine

i've never played your game and i'm sure it's great, but i can confirm your theory on how epic game store is treated is accurate. i have claimed 275 games (and counting) on epic game store (probably more if i started from the very beginning) and not spent a cent on a single game because i only signed up for the free games.

@duudiiss

You forgot to put the steam link of your game on the description bro

@feraldrgn

As an aside, it's a shame to see the games not do as well as they should.

@DatisAusum

Yeah as a consumer Epic is just not suitable to find an indie game I want to play. No review system, no user categorization, no recommendation queue. The only time you can find a game you'd like to play in this platform is when you already know about the game through external sources, and type the exact title on the search bar.
Unless Epic revise its store significantly, indie devs should not expect people to discover their game on Epic just because it's enlisted.

@Erde04

Epic Launcher is just a shit experience and epic isn't putting any resources into improving it. I've tried multiple times to enjoy a game on Epic but it's a shit experience every time. Not even worth even grabbing the free games so I don't bother.

@BrannoDev

There are perspectives of the winners who are unaware of their survivorship bias so there is nothing to learn other than 'just put in the work bro'.
There are perspectives of the losers who did so many basic things wrong that there is nothing to really learn.
But it's really interesting to know the perspective of someone who had previously won but is now struggling to win again.

@CrispySalmonDigital

Thank you for sharing your experience and stats.

@kuroyza7839

Your insight really helps, we really need videos like this that speak the untold truth.
Thank You!

@IlluminanceWeddingFilms

Hi Johnny,

Feedback: I checked out your games on Steam. In my opinion, the price is set too high for me and maybe this is a simple reason you're not seeing many sales if you believe in your product. The higher the cost, the more competitive space you are entering into and expectations from players. One of my first games in 2017 was a super mid vr cooking game, but the price was 2.99 and I still seen about $800 in profit.

@blas_gamedev

Great videos that show actual data coming in as an unknown indie.

@chaosmachines934

3:51 THIS IS LEGIT SABODGE AT THIS POINT
AW YEAH I DONT BUY FROM EPIC I BUY FROM STEAM
THIS LIKE SAYING I DONT BUY FROM BEST BUY I BUY FROM AMAZON .

@Zizaco

Thanks for this video! Valuable insights

@cultofape1000

The problem is Steam is to convenient, and Epic does not add anything for the buyer, only the developer. Yes, you get a bigger cut as a developer, but it's irrelevant if no one buys the game. It's sad, because I support what Epic is trying to do..

@Uhfgood

The free games are probably a "loss leader" for Epic. Supermarkets do this all the time, they will heavily discount items to get you into the store, they operate at a loss for those items, but once you're in the store, you're more likely to buy more non-discounted items. That's also how fast food coupons and deals work. They take a loss on a product in order to get you to come to their store, and then you're more likely to buy more items. Bogo burgers? You're more than likely to get a soda, and some fries with it (or something else). 25% off your order of $20 or more, you're likely to spend more, in order to get the discount. So in order for people to buy Epic's costly AAA games, they give you some free indie games, so that you'll end up looking at the store, and maybe getting a new AAA game. It obviously works, because they continue to do it.

@idle.observer

I find your content very useful. Thank you for your effort.

@Furebel

So it is as they say, average earnings of indie devs are enough to feed a person for life, but earnings of an average indie dev are zero.
