Successful investing is hard work because it means disciplining your mind to do the opposite of human nature. Buying during a panic, selling during euphoria, and holding on when you are bored and just craving a little action. Investing is 5% intellect and 95% temperament.
Many of you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the term "Activist Investor". While Bill never put it explicitly, an activist investor is not an investor that is also a traditional activist like a social activist, climate activist etc. an "Activist investor" is an investor that uses their invested stake to influence positive, value driven gains in a company's core business model and operations. The activism is being active in managing and influencing the company. This is compared to passive investing which is where you buy a stock and let a company grow on it's own. An activist investor takes active stake in improving the business, typically by bringing in their own expertise and knowing how to grow a promising business model that is struggling on their own. An activist investor is not a social justice warrior.
I learned a lot in the past by listening to B.A. I do tend to write down in a notebook some of his thoughts.
Bill is great and logical. The interviewer asks 5 questions at once and has an inflection at strange parts of a sentence. Difficult to listen to. Generally steered the conversation well however.
The interviewer apparently skipped the part of speech class where you learn not to lead your talks by body movements and swinging your arms around
22:32 I like how the interviewer attempts to put words in his mouth, but he doesn’t let her do it 😆
The interviewer generally did a horrible job with this interview. Bill is pushing back which is great
The interviewer simply couldn't come to grips with the man, the myth, the legend. Bill Ackman's approach to issues is first class. His ideas resonate with me despite us being from diverse backgrounds. He is the embodiment of a quote that came from one of my favourite movie franchises, the John Wick multiverse. How a man does anything is how a man does everything. I am thoroughly inspired. Much respect.
That interviewer speaks in a very annoying way.
the interviewer needs to lower her voice
Bill is smart as fck.
So much respect for Mr. Ackman; a brilliant investor who embraces discussing the current events of the day, and sharing his thoughts, along with inviting discussion. Not easy in his world! I have learned so much about investing and improving my own portfolio, just by listening to him.
SHE IS NOT ABLE TO MODULATE THE VOLUME OF HER VOICE!!!
Clapping FOR free speech at Ted conference! Is this the turn in the pendulum?
The Lex Fridman podcast recently featured investor Bill Ackman, who offered profound insights, epitomizing the spirit of capitalism. His expertise in finance demonstrates how it can be harnessed to build or rejuvenate valuable businesses that enhance society. Value-Adding Investor
Usually TED gets speakers who aren't already proven with all talk and no results. With bill ackman finally someone with substance is on TED and TED interviewer ruin it.
As an investment enthusiast, I occasionally wonder how top-tier investors become millionaires through investing. I have a big amount of money to begin with, but I have no idea what tactics or paths I should take to help me earn more than $400k like several others this season.
