5:37 uga booga explanation is top tier
I recommend the video "The dumbest excuse for bad cities" from Not Just Bikes as a counterpoint to this video where he argues that almost every country has areas like the Netherlands, yet they arent nearly as well built for reason of bad infrastructure planning
2:16 Bro just became dutch for 5 seconds, like you pronounced everything else like Mark Rutte (I'm dutch)
Bro…. My guy in the video omitted Eindhoven when talking about major Dutch cities. PSV fans will be mad hahaha
I think the ruhrgebiet is very comparable to the Randstad. Might make for an interesting comparison
But still: You have to manage that wealth and keep it inside the dense areas. Look at NY for example. NY has more money than the Netherlands (per capita), yet their infrastructure is absolute shit because most of their income tax goes to the federal government which then spends it in other areas, but not only in NY. It is not only about how much money you get, it is about how well you spend it.
The Netherlands definitely reminds me of the megaregions in the USA, curious if you're familiar with them. It might be somewhat comparable to the Northern California and Cascadia megaregions in particular, in terms of population density and culture.
As someone who lives in Rotterdam. It's very populated. Like most people prefer to use a bike then a car. If you need to go like 5 kilometers or 5 miles, it'll take about 10 minutes, but with a bike, it takes 15 minutes. The only difference is 5 minutes, and that's why the Netherlands has a lot of bikes. For living, every won is kind in Rotterdam. It doesn't matter what your religion is and where you are from. For moslims out ther. In rotterdam, there are more moslims than other religions. For Language. Netherlands koms first to learn and then English koms next to learn so you can go to Someone one and talk with him in Engel maybe the are not the best at taking in Engels but it still good. Thanks for reading and have a great day.❤
The pronunciation of randstad just sends me goosebump, it's actually so good I have to wonder wonder if you're Flemish
Population density means very little though. Two countries of the same size, where one of them has a giant city with 100% of people and the rest of the country is empty and the other one, where everyone is spread out have the exact same population density, yet are very different. Now going back to the US, even in populated areas, its population density is way too low. Compare Dallas (Texas) and Paris: Dallas has a population density of 1300 per sq km, while Paris has a density of ~20000 per sq km. Why is that? Dallas is fully built for cars. Paris isn't. Now you can go "Netherlands small USA huge" all you want, but at the end of the day, the US has terrible land use in most of its cities. And a lot of the land that is currently in use due to suburban sprawl could just be left to the wilderness and everyone would benefit
So is this actually for an American audience with the NYC comparison? I'd like to see the Netherlands compared to something like London or Berlin or Paris
I'm sorry, I was interested, but I can't follow it if you go talking like that. It’s just annoying.
I was not expecting that twist hahaha I had to check my phone to make sure that I wasn’t tripping haha
The “Urk and Buruk” segment is the best explanation of human civilization I’ve ever seen
I know this video is old but this channel has made me think more than anything they ever taught me in school and just about the same as the army, the world is dark and you dont shy from showing it. This channel is so unbiased that it should be taken as the best place to get news from even if the news is old. Many other channels fit in a one second jab at an opposing side but this is quite litterally facts and thought provoking questions. May not mean much but well done I'm very impressed
How cool! When i moved from germany (berlin) to the Netherlands in 2004 ai always said I somehow compair the whole Netherlands to Berlin. How you can easily move by train frommone to the other city just felt like one big city. Now 20 years later I see this and understand why I felt like it and that i was right. Vielen Dank guys 😁😁
Videos like these make me proud to be Dutch
Utrecht is the central transportation hub with a load of trains going everywhere
Love that you had a complete breakdown in the middle of the video
