The compensation is not entirely true. You are comparing a product based SDE roles with consulting appied scientist. In many product based companies and faangs, ususlly DS/AS and ml engineers are paid more than SDEs ....

Ai will eventually take over client interaction, just not anytime soon due to the obvious implications. Although DS is very good still, software engineers will forever be unable to talk to girls, it's the inner .exe that stops working after a while
