@airdamien Noone was being prevented from going to class. They weren't blocking a classroom or anything of the sort. They were in the quad.
When someone sitting on the grass is seen as a threat... you're living in a dictatorship
@chadr76 I wouldn't exactly say they lost. They were protesting against the way that cops beat students previously. They got assaulted for sure, but they also got national attention and there will likely be a change in campus police policy. Minus being pepper sprayed I have a feeling they are going to get what they were protesting to get. A change in the way cops behave on campus.
Cabela's has a sale on bear spray btw
@fyndor 1 wrong point out of 5 still = bear spray.
@fyndor I can possibly agree that arresting every one of them would have done the job, but that just that would cost the tax payer a shitload of money. Plus, the spray taught them a lesson. When you are breaking the law (IE like squatting/screaming on private property and asked to leave) if you don't listen, you will lose.
First, you need a permit to protest, they didn't have one Second, I was told that sidewalk was the entrance to the school they blocked it Third, The police ordered the protesters to move several times, the protesters refused Fourth, Using pepper spray reduces the chance of bodily injury on both police & protesters Fifth, The main goal of the protesters themselves is to instigate the police at any cost to use force so they can record & publish it with their slanted, cut up footage of course
@fyndor Sooooo you think it's ok for them to block walkways on private property after being asked to leave many times?
@chadr76 1. What did those kids destroy? 2. Why are you supposed to leave, if you leave in a free country? Law enforcers do not have the right to tell you what to do in any circumstance (otherwise it's a dictatorship). 3. Who is being threatened by someone that sits on a University road? 4. Why don't we see any cops arresting the guys who lead the US into crisis? 5. Why does the government subsidizes those guys with your money, instead of treating them as the threat they are?
If it's not obvious to you that they wanted to be sprayed by provoking authority in any way they could to further their cause, there is something wrong with you.
When you ignore the law and articulate warnings from those who enforce the law, then you are going to suffer the consequences. People who willfully choose to be stupid don't deserve sympathy.
I've researched it and have seen nothing indicating that the land isn't owned by the university. Can you provide a link? Just saying that it's a 'public university' has nothing to do with land ownership. I've seen a few things indicating that some of the land was given by the government as a land grant, which still makes the land owned by the university. Also, I'm sure they are fully within their rights to decide who squats on the front lawn. Leave when asked, simple.
How do you suggest we deal with people that simply refuse to leave an area that does not belong to them. Similar to a child being punished for not listening, its the only valuable life lesson they'll likely learn from college. They were warned over and over...
@fyndor Who said anything about hate? I'm peaceful.
@fyndor It's not ignorance, It's freedom of speech! I'M PEACEFUL LEAVE ME ALONE!
@emiliob7878 What about the people that would actually like to go to class to get the education that they're going to spend quite a while paying for?
@chadr76 Sorry I didn't know you were a mind reader. Besides, it doesn't matter if they were warned. The cop could have said "Move or I will shoot you". If they don't move would it make it ok for the cop to shoot them? No. Just because you warn someone before assaulting them doesn't make the assault alright. Cops shouldn't use pepper spray, tasers, or night sticks unless they are physically threatened. Btw this protest was because they were mad that cops beat students with night sticks.
@fyndor Coming to sit on your lawn and scream at you while blocking your driveway then. When the cops come, tell them they are bullies
@fyndor What if i just want to go to class without dealing with screaming morons? If they can't understand 'you need to leave or your getting sprayed', they are fucked in the real world anyway.
