Poor Jim, He lost the only father-figure he ever had, The one person who believed in him even when he screwed up royally and everybody wanted to throw him under the bus and send him back to the academy. I really feel for him.

@adl1578

Chris Pine nailed this. Beautifully acted.

@soniagriffith2569

Not sure why everyone is commenting on Chris Pine's perfomance and neglecting Greenwood's. Every time I watch this movie I feel the most gut wrenching sadness experiencing the helpless fear in Pike's eyes and then the erie relaxation of face muscles as he goes. It's one of the most captivating moments of I have ever seen and I am shocked Greenwood does not get serious accolades for this.

@kentonbarks5540

Pike was like a father to James Kirk.

@sdprazak

Great scene and very moving. Putting his hand on Spock's shoulder, you could tell from Spock's expression as he turned his head that even in the midst of that great tragedy, he was amazed that Kirk still recognized their friendship. ...wow...

@christina113704

Chris did an awesome job. 👍👍 You can really get the feelings that Kirk has when he sees Pike. 😢

@KEYSERSOZE1965

Even though Spock was melding with Pike to experience what Pike was feeling I always like to think that Spock is trying to keep Pike from feeling the pain of death at that moment, almost like the power Sybok had in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

@mirandamullet8334

Poor Kirk. Pike always believed in him even when everyone else didn't

@jackieblue3818

i love the huge difference between Kirk's outer complete devestation and despair and Spock's outer calmness

@kevincoyle8438

Of all the things I’ve seen Chris Pine in, this could be my favorite moment of his. It’s so raw and vulnerable…

@yutakakawakami5721

0:13 I've only noticed this now, but that single tear from Admiral Pike's left eye. Makes me wish that Bruce Greenwood played Admiral Pike for just one more movie.

@madam-mint

Oh that's painful. That's so painful to watch. I don't even need context to get choked up from this. Pine was phenomenal here.

@notallthatbad

Deeply moving and expressive musical cue. Great acting, too.

@al307antony2

Imagine the way Spock feels compared to Kirk. Kirk mourns Pike's death and is obviously affected but Spock experienced dying with him and remains expressionless.

@browneyes22100

stop it Chris your making me cry :'(

@silverstarlightproductions1292

Somebody get Chris Pine an Oscar already!!!

@julianaylor4351

It's this scene that strengthens the bond between Kirk and Spock. Pike was their shared father figure. 🥺

@laurazaetz9505

I'm probably the only one who saw this, but for an instance, while Pine was crying, he looked a tiny bit like the original Kirk Shatner, and I don't mean that in the bad way. I found it pretty moving.

@SR71ABCD

Fare well Admiral Pike, this death suits you better than getting burned.

@hickory6615

Everyone here is praising Pine's performance here – And don't get me wrong, it's amazing, and his performance in the reboot series overall is amazing as well, but I think it overshadows Bruce Greenwood. This scene is second to the "I dare you to do better" one in terms of Greenwood's performances in these movies, and it's simply awesome how well he plays Pike. I was sad to see him go so early on, especially since they have another movie planned. Since the 4th one looks like it may be a prequel, I can only hope that Greenwood shows up again.
