I think that the key concept that helps you go into the 'Forest' is trust. It starts with trust in yourself, then trust in your team, and of course trust in/from the organization. Actually the trust in yourself is the most powerfull in that. It can even replace/replenish the lack of trust from the organization to some extent. That trust will make you achieve more than expected, which builds the trust in the team and the organization.

One of the easiest paths from the forest to the desert is when your managers' imposter syndrome fills them with a desire to appear to be "more professional" and as their deforestation creates a desert all around them they remain convinced that they're still in the forest whilst their employees mutter "there sure is a lot of sand round here these days".
