The forbidden question.

@tedzards509

I'd like to interject for a moment.

What you are referring to as Linux is actually Linux.

@Beanibirb

Linux is something I want to learn how to use and eventually move to.
The current state of the Internet and Windows as a whole is rapidly pushing me towards it

Update: I have moved to Fedora Linux with the KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment, it's everything Mint is and more and I honestly don't see myself moving from it.

"What Is Linux? - Explained for Beginners" I got a feeling that most people who watched this video aren't actually total beginner to linux

@jvgradiz906

As a Arch user using Hyprland this video is very intresting

@MrArrakis9

Honestly I've used Ubuntu based distros for years just for the simplicity and support they offer, I recently switched to an Arch based distro (Cachy OS) and had a serious revelation on what easy really is with linux in general.. with the advent of Gnome 48 and Kernel 6.14 I feel like Linux is ready to be a true windows desktop replacement - everything you could possibly want for a gaming system was preinstalled and just straight up worked out of the box. T! he only thing I had to do was choose my themes and extensions and enable Proton in steam to enable support for non native linux games and thats it.... It just works & its fast! Seriously thinking about just ditching the windows partition on my dual boot & going full on Linux on my machine.

@killman0130

I liked it, very informative❤

@egeres14

Thank you for making introductory videos for newcomers 🎉❤

@bryanmoraski7005

That's one of the best explanations of Linux I've seen. Thank you.

@WilburJaywright

You very cleanly explained what a kernel was, and even I learned a little bit. It was a very good video.

@TomMAnderson87

I still consider myself a beginner to Linux Operaing system Michael! Thanks for your likes on my comments, in the past!

@JamesMcCloskey

Zorin OS is an excellent option for those who are new to Linux or anyone else who wants a simple, elegant, and stable experience. It is an ideal Windows 10 replacement!

@arthurboston1

thank you for bringing me back in the 80s where I was still using command lines on microcomputers. So refreshing to find that world again in Linux.

@JoeNokers

Maybe I am off base here, but this really feels like it moves way too fast and talks about way too much for a beginner. Most people moving from windows or mac won't even know what RAM or a BIOS is, this would be really overwhelming for someone just wanting to try give linux a go because windows 10 isnt going to work anymore.

I feel like it's better to explain that Linux has two parts, the kernel which they don't need to worry about, and a skin over the top.

@scottparent7028

Just started using CachyOS and its very nice :)

@NYCamper62

At first the narration started to seem complicated. But once you remember Linux is not windows then it makes sense.
Also I was unaware that Fedora had a cinnamon distro, will check that out. 👍

@tedzards509

A little feedback: In the segment at around 3:35 I would imagine it kind of hard to visually keep track of what is being shown if you haven't seen KDE or GNOME for many hours already.

Maybe you could've added a watermark when you were showing GNOME, or change the accent color of one of the DEs to something other than blue. Also, the cuts seemed a bit too fast for me, so I could barely focus on what you were saying as I tried comprehending what was being shown on screen.

@compsciwins-p4d

People u can make most distros behave like one another beside the package manager. Init system, boot loader, file system and more. You have the unlimited capacity to do it all. Just as a beginner stay with sth that is not updated as frequently as arch and not as slow as debian. Dont bother to understand all the stuff people say as a begineer you have to get your feet wet because if not so once you encounter error it is hard. And mistakes happen on both end all it requires is research and reading docs. I hope all the begineers find it useful. And some ppl will always have stuff to say don't let it get you.

@tonyf8167

modern Linux is what you get when a bunch of brilliant programmers, rather than work in a cohesive manner, work in parallel constantly re-inventing the wheel.
i see where Linux is, and im utterly saddened by the lack of what could be, if its developers would just decide on a set of standards and work in that unified direction. but then that would be like trying to herd lemmings i suppose.

@TrueMathSquare

"In 2009, Microsoft then-CEO Steve Ballmer indicated that Linux had a greater desktop market share than Mac, stating that in recent years Linux had "certainly increased its share somewhat". Just under a third of all Dell netbook sales in 2009 had Linux installed."
