I like this concept a lot. In my Cyberpunk game I try to keep in mind how my characters are dressed and have NPCs react accordingly, but it's all just...vibes and is frequently forgotten (by both me and the party.
I thought it was so weird to read Cyberpunk Red going all "STYLE is EVERYTHING choom"... and not doing anything with it. It did get me to think a lot more about how we often discard mechanically better clothing/armour in video games, and how clothes often "maketh the man" IRL; why is this so rare in TTRPGs? I think you've got a few good ideas, that I want to integrate into my own games :)
I think your system has pretty nice ideas, I like it. What I did up till now was less of a system for the effects on other people, but the influence on the charakter themselfes: I brought together Style and Attitude -> the more a Charakter styles themself in the way they are attitude wise, they gain ressources that let them be more uncompromisingly themself (basicly a suit of similar working, but mechanicly different meta ressources).
Nice work, choomba 👍. I’d like to also point out that the clothing mechanics would have to be balanced so that every player doesn’t end up wearing the same types, allowing for full versatility in clothing and accessory options.
Yeah Cyberpunk, especially RED with the core rulebook, really is Style over Substance: all the time we hear the "Rules" (Style over Substance, Attitude is everything, Always Take it to the Edge, Break the Rules), but in the Game this is seldom relevant. I think, this is because in the end, Cyberpunk is very much a product of the 80s. Rules that enhance the style and vibe of a Game were not a concept broadly understood at the time. Some did it intuitively, some had it actually figured out somewhat. But a lot had no idea. And as much as I like Cyberpunk - I really don't think they had it figured out back then and not even today.
Definitely gonna run this by my players thank you so much for this video, I’ve been meaning to find a way to better incorporate style
I have GMed Cyberpunk Red for a while and my players have found many uses for wardrobe/style and personal grooming, such as disguising themselves with makeup, dressing up for club Atlantis or blending in with the Piranhas. I can also imagine those skills being used for knowledge about fashion or beauty products. I dont think skills have to have special mechanics to make them unique or interesting.
was hoping for new ways to implement fashion into my game
Random suggestion by the algorithm but neat!
cyberpunk 2020 had fashion rules, did they cut them from red?
How will the developers balance the game so a dress isn’t OP? Because then everyone will end up wearing the same thing!
