It's been awesome to see you blow up so fast. I love the how to train your dragon soundtrack and never thought to use it for DND that's awesome!
I first started watching your content a couple days ago, I was so shocked to find out how new this channel was! Congrats on the successful launch. I bet you’ll have 100k by this time next year!
1:19:00 A five-room dungeon is 1. At least two separate entrances with guardians; 2. a trap; 3. a puzzle; 4. a fight; 5. a treasure vault; and 6. Four rooms that are interesting but not challenging ("empty"). So ten rooms, really. "Empty" rooms may have have informative wall paintings, weird effects, debris, mundane storage, etc. They may contain stone blocks or water pools that become resources when you realize a puzzle or trap in another room needs a heavy weight or some water.
Congratulations on the milestone! Very improbable for a new channel to reach this much growth in such a short amount of time. Truly a testament to your quality since day one
I missed the broadcast, thanks for uploading! It was fun to watch!
I missed watching live, but hopefully catch the next one. Your content has been top tier. It's no wonder you're growing so fast. As a GM that uses Obsidian religiously for my TTRPGs. I can say you'll love it. Check out a few community plugins that'll help out big-time with TTRPG note taking and building. Calendarium (you'll need "BRAT" to install but worth it) - Like it's name suggests, you can setup custom calendars. Makes it super easy to track moon phases and seasons. I add notes from sessions into it for myself so I know when big events happened. The longer you use the same world/universe, the better this calendar can get for you. Timeline - Not super important but useful for those that want to build out a timeline of history events. Makes laying out Era's or Ages with key points easy for future reference. Fantasy Statblocks - This is a must have. You can import statblock content and have them easily available. When this is paired with the next 2 i'm going to post, it's god tier. Dice Roller - I still love rolling physical dice, but sometimes having to roll last minute enemy HP or something with a lot of dice is just easier with this on screen dice roller. It also works well with Fantasy Statblocks, allowing you to click abilities and attacks right from the statblock and the dice start rolling with all modifiers. Initiative Tracker - I don't actually use it for initiative tracking anymore. Although it's super good for it. I DO still use this for encounters building. You can input players info (one time and name the group for easy future reference), then load up a bunch of creatures from the Fantasy Statblocks plugin, then give the encounter a name and have a simple screen that shows the difficulty level, HP (editable), AC (editable) and name of the encounter that you can load right up. I build up encounters here and can click their HP to keep track in one place, plus you can click the name of the creature and it'll pull up the statblock for quick interaction. It also tracks conditions, concentrations, or other stuff. Others worth looking into include: Soundscapes (for music), Various Complements (makes things easier in Obsidian), Media Extended (extra media features), Second Window (so I can easily pop something on screen for the players without worry of slip up). Perfect example of using Obsidian additional ways: I keep all my music/audio for TTRPG's in named (by theme) folders in my Obsidian Vault. Then I can quickly drag/drop them into a session tab and run through them like a playlist when needed. I also use Soundscapes plugin almost exclusively for the Custom Playlist feature and have a Battle Music playlist ready to go in it's lower banner whenever needed. Then coded my own plugin specifically for a separate Boss Battle playlist. Literally, everything can be done in Obsidian. So I don't need any additional pages up and only need to keep books ready for minor details that I haven't imported into the vault yet. Music, photos, world lore, rules, calendars, statblocks, encounter info, player info, session notes, shop info. Literally everything can be put into Obsidian. Plus it only gets better over time as you add more into it.
I could spent hours listening to you speaking about D&D ❤
Congratulations on getting to 20k! Love your content! Hi from Brazil!! 👋
Hey Daði, big fan of what you're doing, keep up the great work!
Hearing you mention megagames is wildly entertaining! I am one of the leading members of Melbourne Megagames - we run megagames in Melbourne, Australia - and I am a megagame designer!
54:10 The "bad" metagaming is when a player imagines their character should be able to build repeating firearms, bombs, radios, chlorine gas, railroads... because they know those things are possible in the real world. The lesser version is a player hearing something said to another player and trying to have their character act on that. Those are usually easy "no" situations.
Thanks for posting the video after the live! What a fun watch!
at 1:49 he did it! he made the DM sound of "I'm going to continue talking but I need exactly one second to think"
Your channel is great. I'm not going to lie, I got hooked because I recognized a lot of the stuff I advocate, and you explain it in a very concise way (your "rendering scenes" one is top notch). Good job. Also, I'm planning a trip to Iceland next year (November) with the wife and two friends, any advice on some places to absolutely visit ? The main hope is to see some aurora borealis... Keep up the good work !
I love using a literal ticking clock when running a chase. I go around the table, and give each person 60 seconds to explain what they're doing, and give me a roll for a skill or attack or save, etc. It really increases the tension at the table. My players tell me they actually have an elevated heartrate, and start to breathe a little harder. 😊
When it comes to identifying spells, I tend to shift between 10 + spell level, 15 + spell level, or no check, depending on whether the player has that spell as something they can learn or not, or if they already know the spell.
just seeing the replay now, but want to congratulate your success!! i'd like to contribute one comment about low-rolling streaks or the occasional critical fail. i've recently played a game called disco elysium, and would recommend it to all rpg-ers. it really teaches embracing failure in an entertaining way. rpg's aren't really won by getting a high score, and can't be failed that way either. the memorial stories that are told over time can be both epic successes as well as epic fails, if the group embraces the player (who exists), and values them more than beating monsters (that don't actually exist). damn that sounds a little preachy, but is intended lightheartedly. best wishes to all
This was a wholesome stream. Didn't have the time to follow when it was live, but I'm glad I followed up with the VoD :) Got inspired to add a few things to my megadungeon, I am starting to run on Tuesday.
Michel Ghelfi, Hand Zimmer and Nabuo Uematsu are my favorite music to use at the table
