I have already read 35 fiction books in 2022! As well as several non fiction - reading is EVERYTHING! My vocabulary has expanded so much, I find I am able to communicate much more easily with people as well as being able to express my feelings in a much clearer way!

@fwebster6226

Reading fiction before I go to sleep is also a great form of decompression as well.

@Nickopotamus1

Man I absolutely love this content as an aspiring reader and psychologist in training. You deserve so many more subs

I recently read The Familiar Dark by Amy Engel. I'm a young adult male living in a city. Reading about a single mother living in a small town who's only child was murdered was a very different perspective. Even if it's not a true story, it showed me a lot of the horrors women face in the modern world. There's some pretty dark stuff in there but empathy wise was very valuable as some problems Eve faced in the book are actually experienced by a lot of women.

@mauveciel

Love this video. I think people put so much emphasis on self-help books when we can learn so much about life from reading fiction.

I think you deserve more subscribers, You provide value

This was so interesting - I love hearing your perspective on topics through the lens of brain science. I've always loved reading fiction too, I guess for me it is also nice to do something that doesn't involve a screen. Especially as I use my laptop most of the day for work.

@joekapp5471

I for one get annoyed that so many books are adapted into some form of screen medium. One may picture a character a certain way and then suddenly an actor can ruin the way we pictured the character. I’m proud to admit that I have not seen a single Harry Potter movie! And I always refuse to look at it when someone watches it in my presence. I’ll leave the room or leave the residence. Harry Potter is good enough to experience in written form only, and doesn’t need a screen adaptation to back it up.

@jarenfromvenus

I write fiction. ☺️😊

@EduardoHenrique-nd1ro

Amazing video, Jack! I’m rereading the HP books and it’s amazing! Gonna read the paper you referenced. Thanks for sharing with us!

@Heartandmind22

I really appreciate this video. I used to devour fiction in my adolescence. Suddenly, I become an adult and subconsciously determined that fiction is a waste of time (I have the same regard for movies nowadays, as well). Nonfiction sociological and theological books that examine life, living, and society appeal to me the most, but lately I've had a strong desire to feel the enchantment of fiction again. My problem is, I need to feel like the reading is worthwhile (weighty prose, social commentary, examination into the human experience) in order for it to feel useful to me. In other words, it's not just story I'm after. I need an intellectual challenge and wisdom.

@justinwu136

your content is so underrated. keep it up!

@CorneliuBacauanu

Fiction stimulates imagination and makes different synapses in the brain than the reality.

@realentro

Great video man. About to send it to my friends for a listen.

@CatherineSwasey

I think about the actions and the characters in the story as well but I think about it more than my reality it's really my life and my perception

@Mwage03

Great channel. High quality with thorough research. 👏🏽👏🏽

@anotherbeautifulday_emon

Just recently loving reading books, Jack. Love your content. Feedback: your background music is too loud (at least to me) whilst you’re speaking.
