As a fellow producer and electronic music teacher, when potential clients can't necessarily afford to be in the room with me to get instruction, I always send them to your page. Always giving such a wealth of knowledge. Lol with yur page and some real internal motivation, folks really don't need to go the college route like I did. Keep on keeping on brutha!
These videos are great, Ethan! I do want to point out that the bpm is really 85, but setting it to 170 and doubling the space between notes on the grid makes it feel like it's 85 bpm. I'm not trying to be pedantic, but I thought others might need an explanation if they're new to music production. If there's a reason for doing it this way, then please let me know. I'm certainly open to hearing new approaches. I'm thinking it's so that you can keep the grid in "8th" notes. I put it in quotes because it's meant to be quarter notes because a bar is four quarter notes. lol, okay. I think that I just answered my question. I think it's purely for the visual of being able to see the samples on the grid without seeing a bunch of extra lines.
adding to the praise, I am day two into using Ableton. Many thanks, I've gone through the onboard tutorial and as nice as it was being able to try and replicate what you are doing and messing up and fixing it has been invaluable. Again thanks.
Great video šÆ Sidechain can go on its own lane, then route each lane needing SC to that lane to reduce strain on CPU. You can use more SC lanes for varying side chains, vocals etc. Saves time when using templates too.
I have some millions streams producing lofi and still had some nice insights! Amazing video
I finally bought my Ableton Live Standard and this video is exactly what I needed to start playing around after using the Lite version for a while. Thanks!
Iāve been producing in Ableton since 7 while I was in college. When I hit a writers block I come back to ābeginnerā videos like these to find a new way to approach the software. I almost never use stock plugins and I donāt drag drum samples directly to the grid, but just trying out different approaches that seem like they wouldnāt make a difference can mix up things just enough to get over something like writerās block. Thank you for this.
grateful for this- been producing since 2012 and haven't found any lofi videos like this since
I watch a lot of youtube videoās and lately starting to uderstand and like making beats more. This video is a big help and reason why i will keep going on loving making music. Thankyou!
This was by far, one of the most engaging beatmaking videos Iāve watched on youtube. You explain things so wellšš¾
Thank you, Ethan. I made my first ever beat because of you.
Thanks so much man !! Your vids are always top quality and straight-forward. Way more concrete and useful than some 30min videos where it feels like you don't retain any practical information at the end haha
I absolutely loved this video! Especially considering I'm a beginnerš not only did you make it easy to follow along to, but it was also fun and really encouraged me to continue creating and to make an attempt to create my first original piece! Keep up the terrific work!
I followed along and made my own lo-fi beat. Actually my first beat ever! I'm so proud of myself and thank you for this great video. Very informative. I'm considering taking the producer pro course. I'm gon' make it out the hood with this one! lol
When Ethan rolled his eyes at the "D" joke, I truly felt like I was in class lol
loveeee the way you show the process and breakdown
I believe that the best for lofi instruments are the carefully created synths, with some envs and lfos on fin, amp, warp, with the right wavetables
I wish I saw this sooner. I'm familiar with a lot of these concepts but there were some new gems in here, like your process for building chords. Also I tend to find Ableton a bit clunky and get a bit stuck in the workflow a bit, but just seeing how you quickly navigate things has shown me better ways to do it all. Can't wait to give this a go! I love that you put in some actual instruments too, which I feel a lot of creators in this space miss out on.
Hi Ethan I just like to let you know that (what I know about) you and your content are amazing! you put it very simply and understandable to us who wanna learn, the way you speak and guide through your videos is so warming and the content itself is so rich!! I am very grateful for finding you doing this work at this time of my life, much love ā¤ā¤ā¤
