Advice to people who are the only guitarist in their band: if you want your guitar to sound thicker, it’s nice to use a chorus with a small rate and a delay with minimum feedback and delay time. It will make your guitar sound like two guitars at the same time and it’s really useful!
Happy to hear a video without blues riffs, and more related to what I like to play, keep it up!

Hi Dan Great video. Please stop saying “my band” and start saying “my band October Drift” You guys are amazing and more people need to hear you. Forever Whatever is one of the best albums of 2020.
Great setup. For me it's 1. Boss TU-3 Tuner 2. Korg Alligator expression/volume pedal 3. Boss SD-1 Overdrive 4. Strymon Timeline 5. Strymon Bigsky 6. Boss TR-2 Tremolo 7. Wampler Ego compressor 8. MXR M234 Analog Chorus I run a modern Marshall so no distortion needed.
Disturbed by the sheer volume of empty Tabascos on the windowsill.
Not enough alt/indie guitar channels. Easy sub.
This is such a great video. I’m the guitarist and singer to my 3 peice grunge band and I’ve been stuck on what to get, and this video has helped so much. Instantly subscribed, thank you for making this content
The DD-7 really does not get enough love! Thank you! I've got a ton of delay pedals way more fancy than this little guy, but I really like my little pedal, so I added a tap tempo to it, and I still use it to this day <3 I don't think most people understand how good it actually is!
that jazzmaster + plumes sound combo is a thing of beauty
Just checked your band out as well! Excellent! I’ll be following that as well! Can’t go wrong with The Plumes! Covers most moods, stacks well and a BEAUTIFUL clean boost in the middle position!
Finally!!! A guitar video without blues riffs!! Thank you mate. You are a God send. Great sounds!
Sweet vid! My setup for a more melodic expressive lead guitar in my shoegaze band is: MXR Dyna Comp Mini TS Random Rare Japanese Overdrive/boost from pawn shop Big Muff Wicker Boss GE-7 Walrus Chorus (used sometimes) EHX Small Clone EHX Small Stone Walrus SLO
From one shoegazer to another, you really can't argue with the DS-1. Yeah, it's got a Fischer-Price "my first real pedal" vibe to it, but it just sounds good, and has a wide sweep.
2:17 - overdrive 4:58 - distortion 7:04 - fuzz 10:04 - delay 13:19 - reverb 14:07 - altogether
Love this video and it's great to see Shoegaze still alive n kickin 30 years on. From someone who was there 1st time around! Also, worth underscoring that the verb should be first or early in the signal chain - as you have it - so the verb tail gets washed with drive, to create that ethereal wall of sound. Subbed. 🎸
I've been debating whether or not to get a delay pedal-- as i definitely prefer to keep my board really simple. I've been playing gigs with just two pedals (EH Soul Food and an LP B-1 Boost) through my Blues Jr with the reverb cranked and I love how it sounds. But, you might have sold me on getting one-- it honestly just seems like something fun to play around with to create that big wall of sound. Great video!
Agree, except that I'd drop a modulation pedal in there, that can do chorus and/or phase. Seriously important for shoegaze/alternative, unless you're just making chunky chunky heavy music. I love cheap pedals, but I ended up picking up a GFI Synaesthesia, which you can do 2 effects at once. I also LOve the Walrus M1, which has an incredible Lo-fi mode which gives you analog tape-like wobble and such. It's so good.
I really like that first lil riff you played.. what’s your band?
