I predict this is a ploy to get people to quit so they don't have to layoff workers
This is what they do. Instead of layoffs, they just get you to quit.
It's just a ploy. Tech companies love remote work. They're going to try to send most tech jobs to Egypt, India and Vietnam.
I got my current job BECAUSE it was situated close to home, and I did it before remote work was a thing. So to me, if we were told that we needed to be back in office 5 days a week it would not be a big thing... however... I am one of those toxic compliance types, so if that happened, my computer and work phone would be mingling at the office at all times. Need to get hold of me? The office exploded? One the servers burned to a crips during the weekend? Sorry, we will look at that when I am back on monday. If you give me, I give you. If you take away, I take away. If you are flexible, I am flexible. If you are rigid and uncompromising, I am rigid and uncompromising. Quite simple really.
They’ll bring it back when it’s time to hire, they know they can cut heads without calling it layoffs. This is just a distress signal
Only those People who already invested in real estate nearby office wants WFO.
I’d quit. Simple. It has nothing to do with productivity, they’re trying to lay off staff without saying it’s a layoff… it doesn’t cause stock shock and they don’t have to pay severance packages or unemployment because you technically quit
Amazon is not empathic towards people who have families and moved to better places so that they can be near their families while working remotely. I read what the CEO said. If people are honest, focused, and punctual, collaborative efforts, strong networking, and effective outcomes could be achieved even while working remotely.
I am going back to the office and now that I lose 2 hours in travel and 2 hours in sleep along with 16 dollars worth of gas a day, I will work 4 hours a day. I am salary so they can be sued and have been successfully sued for counting the hours of salaried people. Even if I am in the office for 8 hours, I won't actually be working. However, it will look like it. I am coining a new term called indifferent compliance. Indifference is stronger than hate, basically means I do nothing to make sure things are operating correctly. I do what is on my job description and let the things that I used to fix, break.
I'll resign right away! no more work from office. hybrid is good. Why should I burn fuel and spend an unpaid hour extra to get ready to go to office ? I can spend same hour in gym or do swimming.
This is a giant step BACKWARDS! Remote work is OBVIOUSLY what the future holds. When cats became the norm, NOBODY was forced to continue riding their horse to work!!!
This is just layoff in disguise.
Governments should step in because the housing crisis is already insane as it is, plus the more you commute, the more you pollute. We should have the option to work from home at a country house if we wish - because all you need is a laptop and internet to do pretty much 99% of tech jobs
Qualified people are going to quit. They are probably prepared for that and planning to use AI that is why the demand is being made because they can afford to take the risk. What they are ignoring is anything that involves dealing with humans will lose buildings. I changed banks because I could not get connected with a human on several occasions. They had a bot addressing concerns and they lost my account as a result.
I found out today that I am expected to go back into the office later this Mid October. It is a partial return to office. This YouTube brings up a good point. They are not going to stop at partial work from home...
If remote work is so unproductive, why is there so much empty officespace in commercial real estate?
I am not going to work at a place with more than 2 day in the office a week. And even then I'll reduce my hours to adjust for commute time as that's not free time, if you require something like that then you're paying for it.
Will go to work and start looking for a new job while travelling 😂
Most agencies and companies in London still do a flexible type. Massive companies like Amazon notoriously don’t care about their employees wellbeing so I’m not surprised
