"Your age, your skills, where you're from. Your value boiled down to a handful of words. Dignity? Not part of the package." - Damn sounds just like trying to get a job on LinkedIn in 2025.
This video really made me appreciate my life. It's so hard to even imagine what it would have been like to live as a slave. I really hope we can learn from history and never repeat the mistakes of the past. Nobody deserves to be treated like that
Correction on Gladiators they rarely died. Far too expensive to have them die often. Owners just did not want to loose such expnesive invesments.
mild correction: The 27th century BC would have been 2,600 BC, a time when civilization was relegated to the Nile Valley, The Indus Valley, and the Sumerian city state's early dynastic period. Rome as a city was established in the 8th century BC, and the height of Rome was the turn of the common era and first century AD.
Keep making these dude. Theyâre so good and you will 100% make it if you keep up
I remember reading a book back in elementary. "You Wouldn't Want to be a Slave in Ancient Rome" or something. It was actually pretty informative.
ok so a lot of this is historically inaccurate. Romans didn't really wear togas that often, they were more like...special occasions. No, farming slaves weren't worked until their hands were breaking out in blisters and then collapsing from overworking, property was well maintained and slaves were seen as worth. Gladiators were rarely killed in the arena as their training and worth were very expensive. A lot of this video is not correct.
You missed one of the most interesting facts. The holiday of Saturnalia was essentially Romeâs proto-Christmas. It was essentially a kind of society wide Opposite Day or âDaysâ as it went on for like weeks of partying and gift giving during which slaves of the house hold effectively swapped roles with the master of the house. During Saturnalia the slave got to sit at the head of the table during feasts and wore a little toy crown while the master waited on him or her. It was all just dumb fun that everyone participated in from the lowest of peasants to the highest ranks senators and consuls.
Dude, how have you not got millions of subs? The animation, narration and comedic imagination are gold, sensational work man keep pumping them out
in the provinces the chance of emancipation was 20%, while in the cities it was 70%. Moreover, the freedmen had a lot of rights, but if you became a liberated slave, it was recorded in the office that you were a freedman and only the descendant got rid of it and the documents stated that he was a free man
One of my favourite channels now
"Its the 27th century BCE" Its the first sentence of the video and its already wildly wrong
I feel so sorry for these people. I wish i could give them all a hug.
I can't fathom how someone could treat another human this bad đ˘
As a slave I am seeing a lot of jobs that require an awful lot of trust.
"And I thought my 9-to-5 was rough. At least my boss doesnât legally own me."
We're SO lucky... I wish we'd all remind ourselves if this regularly
Great video man, canât wait to see more
I love everyone just ignoring or correcting you for political reasons to excuse slavery.
