Recipe sites are the literal worst for ads. Right behind them are the autogenerated article sites that repost answers to commonly searched questions, but plot twist: the answer given is generic and does nothing but restate the question.

Ad blockers wouldn't exist if we just had a reasonable amount of ads. But this shit gets in the way of user experience. It's a disgrace.

The website: "we noticed you're using an adblocker. Pleeeaseee turn it off so we don't starve this month". You turn off adblock and the site is 99.99% ads totaling 3GB of download, the content you want is like one paragraph totaling 1KB.

Browsing the web now with and without ad blocker is a completely different world. I was horrified when browsing youtube on my phone one time.

I'm trying to learn cooking, and navigating these recipe websites is a major pain. I've decided to just write up all the recipes I succeed with and put them on my website without all the ads and crap. So far I have my own mail server which is pretty useful and some image boards on the site
