The reason Year 1 characters still rock is because Kuro understands that players HATE Powercreep. Each character is instead given a "power budget" and is intentionally designed to be mid. The only thing that determines your efficiency is the substats on your Echo loadout. And how good you are at dodging and/or parrying. The characters still feel powerful when you know how to play. This is why Danjin mains (a 4-star character that intentionally nerfs her own HP) can still kill level 120 bosses with enough patience, even in challenges with countdown timers. Even crazier is that some Danjin mains keep her at level 1.
