25 year old: "It's starting to fall."
87 year old: "It fell, yay!"

@solo451

the first drop should be enough to tell that pitch is a liquid

@Davin4888

Literally me on the toilet, having a staring contest with a cockroach in the corner

@Gottaculat

They turned a hour glass into a millennium glass.

@cunorertv1283

Imagine seeing the drop fall live

@THE_SOSC

That constipation be hittin hard

@fmpabxx7834

The moment it started seeping down and protruding out the bottom was already proof enough that its a liquid. Because a solid wouldn't do that. They didnt even have to wait for the first drop to fall.

@Zsp33d7

"Bro I think this rocks a liquid"
"Prove it"

Watching paint dry ❌
Watching pitch drop âś”

@Certifier

As a geologist, I love talking about viscosity. For reference, the viscosity of honey is about 5000 mPa•s (milli-Pascal second). Pitch has a viscosity of around 10^11 mPa•s. Probably the most viscous substance on Earth is rhyolite lava, which is about 10^13 mPa•s. The Earth's mantle is made of flowing solid rock, with about 10^25 mPa•s. Movement doesn’t get much slower than that.

@friedroach

this is like waiting for GTA games to come out after GTA5

@eliasujashvili7113

Fun fact: One person was actually watching this in real life, he watched it for weeks, then he went to the toilet and missed it.

@mcMelee

imagine someone reports the stream, and youtube staff had to watch all of it from the start

@EmeraldPencil46

Iirc, apparently a professor was watching it for a bit, then left for a few minutes to make a coffee to watch it for longer. When he returned, a drop had fallen. I can’t imagine the pain in that lol

@holdingavoidance

imagine it actually turns out to be a solid. man, history will sigh so loudly..

Keeping experiments alive in the name of those who couldn’t be alive long enough to see the results are who make humanity prosper.

@okwatever3582

For anyone wondering,

1.	First drop: Fell in 1938 (8 years after the experiment began)
	2.	Second drop: Fell in 1947 (9 years later)
	3.	Third drop: Fell in 1954 (7 years later)
	4.	Fourth drop: Fell in 1962 (8 years later)
	5.	Fifth drop: Fell in 1970 (8 years later)
	6.	Sixth drop: Fell in 1979 (9 years later)
	7.	Seventh drop: Fell in 1988 (9 years later)
	8.	Eighth drop: Fell in 2000 (12 years later)
	9.	Ninth drop: Fell in 2014 (14 years later)

Predictions:
	•	Tenth drop: Estimated to fall between 2028-2030, based on the current rate.
	•	Eleventh drop: Expected around 2043-2045, given that the intervals between drops seem to be increasing.
	•	Twelfth drop: Likely to occur around 2058-2060.
