We've been doing simple animal research for a couple of years. It is a great age appropriate way to introduce nonfiction, research, writing, mechanics and more. Typically 2 reports are completed within 3 weeks and some kids have gone to completing 3 reports.

Hello teacher Susan Jones, good afternoon! Great work, congratulations!. By the way, you look beautiful in the beginning of this video. The most of your videos are amazing and useful for me to improve my listening skill in English. I'm learning this language on my own since 2016. Have a good half-week wherever you are. Hi Susan, Love your Sunday Spotlights and really all your videos! They are packed with great information about what works for you in the classroom and great insight on how to differentiate as well :) I love how you can walk around the class and explain how you make it work for your space and organization. My grade 2s this year (2/3s) have enjoyed non-fiction animal reports every year and typically do a creative element at home like create a diorama, game or poster that displays their learning in a fun visual way. I would love to put their books together for a publishing party, do you have an example of what your finish products look like? Do you bind them or staple them? Do you laminate the covers only? Thanks in advance :)

Dear Susan, I just watched this video and then promptly purchased your unit. I have a small Kindergarten class who have written a Personal Narrative and a How To paper. You made the comment that you like to do this informative writing unit in the winter. Do you think my students are ready to do this project? I know each group of children are different, but I know this is a long project and they have only done 2 other pieces of published writing. Just curious of you answer. I want my students to be successful and not get discouraged. I must tell you, after looking through your unit, I love the way it is so nicely laid out. I am so happy you gave us day by day instructions. I am excited about this unit and I know the students are going to love researching their fav. animal...although my student who loves unicorns will be disappointed that a unicorn is not a real animal!
