ML is not just to explore the data.. Here sir has said about ,  inferencing which is done by statistical methods. Prediction is the goal of ML using blend of these already existing statical methods.
This is very difference between statistical methods and machine learning..

Moving to next level to this we can say that goal of ml is to derive an analytical models using data. And it's experience is getting increased when we feed more data, we said it's learning.
