As a local Chinese, I like America and American people. Without USA, I can't even access google or youtube by VPN, so I hope both China and American prosperous. Zeihan just use some words to get traffic, some influencers do the same in China. They talked about nationalism & strategy with lots of followers. For me, the most important things is family and health. Influencers and politicians have their specific purpose, and they are not insterested in the truth.

i think "dissolution of the han ethnicity" is a bold claim. we're talking about maybe a billion people becoming a hundred million over decades - that's still bigger than most countries, and still leaves time for them to turn it around. as always Peter's predictions come with the caveat "if things continue unchanged", which of course they won't, because people respond dynamically to problems

I agree that Chinas future doesn’t look good, but as far as I can tell we’re at the start of this process, not near the end. The soviet economy peaked in growth in the 60s, but lasted another 30 years before imploding.

Peter has interesting background insights, but has a couple of weaknesses. First, he is polemical in his political opinions, which pollutes good analysis, and second, he goes out on a limb, making predictions about things with too many factors to pin down. His analysis framework is great, but these weaknesses have the effect of steadily lowering the value of his commentary over time.
