Sometime it's needed what you see in the video, but more than 90% of the times the lateral active soil preassure Is enough to restrain the estructure at it's basement.

Not so true....soil is enough to hold footing back.... Plinth is provided for reduce settlement of wall and eliminate cracking. Plinth also reduce the dampness coming from downside.

Alternatively you could put the support beam above the weight bearing beam. That way any rotational force on the joints of the weight bearing beam are transferred to the support beam as compression force instead of tension force which is what we see on a lower support beam. 

This is useful for a material like wood where compression force will be better tolerated than a tension force on a wooden joint.

То , что вы видите, Это бред.   Нижние перекладины не будут  работать как показано . Учитывайте, что любая конструкция будет иметь фундамент который скорее всего будет вкопан в землю. Тогда нижняя перекладина просто не нужна!!!
