I was out there that year in the MV Surveyor. Which was an Ex Northern Lighthouse tender ship called the May. Captain Loxton in command. We just did our work but one day the Americans sidled up to a couple of us in the Pub and offered us a job doing a survey off Borneo. My mate and I went to have a look at their ship and fell about laughing, it was a WW2 Tank Landing Craft And they had just welded up the doors and welded a deck on the top of the bulwarks. ( All their big noting in this film is typical American Bull S**t. ) Go to Borneo in that silly ship of theirs and we would have fried. Happy days on the Surveyor though all the same. She was a lovely old ship even if getting on in years, and she was very seaworthy. I went off to Canada shortly afterward and after many adventures onward to New Zealand.

I worked for marine salvage and survey out of lowestoft in the sixties lookin for oil. I was seventeen.
