The tornado made an abrupt turn because it realized that it couldn't intimidate Andy.
the lesson here: if you see a tornado heading straight at you, take off your pants and you will be fine
8:15 “It’s just sitting there.” “Well it may look like it’s sitting there.” Smart lady. I’m glad she knew what that meant
Dude went downstairs to take shelter, and comes back up, and the tornado is just sitting there, like it was waiting for him to come back out. That's crazy.
Nebraska man and tornado have intense staredown. Neither one moves. Neither one wears pants. The moments creep by and time seems to come to a standstill when suddenly... tornado blinks.
Andy has got to be one of the luckiest people on earth. He get some of the best tornado footage there is, refuses to get out of the way, and the tornado just happens to swerve at the last minute.
talk about NOT clickbait, that footage is utterly stunning
the tornado was terrified of Andy's balls of steel. he had the cameraman buff too AND the no-pants buff. thing literally changed shape to try to scare Andy away but then decided to just leave
Andy understood the golden rule, the cameraman never dies. Even the tornado abided by that rule.
Came across this video randomly while watching videos with my dad (who's now 66) and halfway through he's looking at the footage filmed by Andy Olmer and says, "That looks like my Grandfather's barn!" So he decides to jump on Google maps to track down where the Olmer's live. Turns out it IS the same barn. My great-grandfather built the big barn and white corn crib with the little cupola that is in the footage.
Andy is a national treasure. There’s literal baseballs falling from the sky with a 150+ mph missile heading straight towards him and he’s acting like it’s another average Tuesday on the farm, what a legend
This one always fascinates me. Given the bad camera quality and you can still see the extreme movement... imagine what it would be like in 4k..
I totally understand why Andy spent so much time filming the tornado versus getting to safety and taking cover. I was born and raised in Oklahoma and currently live in Iowa, so tornadoes have always been a big part of my life. Unfortunately, when you're that used to them, you're more likely to go stand in the yard or on the porch and watch it like an idiot. In person, they are literally the most mesmerizing thing you'll ever see in your life and the closer it gets to you, the more hypnotized you become. For me to call the experience "incredible" would be a gross understatement.
This is by far my favorite tornado ever. It was almost like the tornado had a conscience and didn’t want to hurt anyone.
I love how this man is legit in the face of death itself and he's just like, "Ill just keep recording." Midwest mood.
I have been watching tornado footage for years now, probably seen 99% of the footage out there. This is without a doubt top 5
“Should we call somebody?” “Call who?!”
There is hardly anything more frightening than seeing an F5 tornado moving towards you, I was in both F5s in Moore. This man is a brave soul. Another time in 2011, I was in my car on I-40 heading west out of OKC towards El Reno when an F5 touched down. We were blocked by traffic that stupidly stopped under an overpass blocking the entire west bound interstate leaving us as sitting ducks. At first I didn't realize it was a tornado; huge hail was coming down cracking windshields and I thought the cars had stopped under the overpass to get out of the hail. Of course, when there is hail that large, there is a good chance a tornado is right behind it. A friend called that knew I was going to El Reno and asked if I knew a tornado was near I-40. I turned on the weather to listen to it. I looked to the south and saw just a huge dark mass and at first thought it was rain, it just didn't register something that wide was a tornado. But then I heard them say it was near I-40 and Cimmaron heading towards exit 132. Exit 132 was the overpass people were parked under blocking traffic. I remember just sitting there staring at it thinking this is it, I have nowhere to go. I put my daughter into the floorboard and got over her, then it thankfully lifted and went over us, but was still close enough to the ground it picked up the back of my car and dropped us and shattered the back windshield. It then touched down not far past us and went on to hit parts of Piedmont, it had weakened to an F3, but tragically killed 9 people in Piedmont. I was furious at the people that blocked traffic, which is of course illegal, we could have easily gotten out of its way had they not blocked us. They risked the lives of everyone they blocked.
Love that his wife understands it might look stationary if it's coming at you. Amazing footage, damn.
