A few of the things that amaze me about 1944 & 45:

The USN fast carriers surpassed the conventional wisdom that land based air power would always defeat sea based aircraft. Dr Mr Conventional Wisdom, I would like to introduce you to Mrs Essex and Mrs Independence and all their friends.

The fleet size, especially all the logistics and organization needed to supply, fight, build bases, support anchorages etc. was immense. Not only was this provided, it was planned for, staffed, and orchestrated.

When reviewing the conquests of the Marianas, Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, not only was the effort huge, it turned out to be necessary. I shudder to think about an invasion of a defended Japanese homeland.

Loving this overview series❣️ Sometimes we get focused on the trees at the expense of seeing the forest. Thanks Rick!

Which Iowa is being launched at the end of the video? I’m thinking it’s NOT Missouri as then Senator Truman isn’t visible.

@JerrySolomon-d3d

All the Iowa class battleship weren't needed to win the war
