Like it or not, Michael Anthony's harmonies ARE crucial to the sound of Van Halen records
Eddie is the reason I had to have a guitar . Heard that first album and was blown away . The date of Nov 2nd 1979 is when I started learning to play. Trying hard to play catch up to" Eddie ". which was impossible . Seen Van Halen on July 28 1981 in concert . Magical !!... I was wowwed to find out his birthday was one day before mine . In March of 2020 my thumb had turned black and they had to amputate it .For a guitar player it was devastating .My thumb was removed because it was cancer . The cancer " Melanoma " went to my brain and was diagnosed as stage 4 melanoma . When Eddie passed away in October . My heart sunk , Battling cancer myself I leaned into his vibe .I am still alive and even though I lost a thumb , I still play and when I play . I look up and think " You can see me playing now buddy .. How am I doing and hope to see you soon " Eddie was my guitarist and inspiration
Every time I think about him, see a video, hear one of his songs I am not only saddened deeply it also reminds me why I should never smoke again or drink for that matter. I've been sober since my cancer in 2019 just a few short months before his passing. I can no longer play guitar like I used to because of chemo & what it's done to my finger movement. RIP EVH & F CANCER
I'm still so saddened about Eddie's passing there will never be a guitarist like Eddie van halen still love it
i respect Sammy SO MUCH for sticking up for Michael..... Sammy has a really big heart
Sad as this story ends, I can't help but feel grateful that he had the opportunity to say goodbye to those closest to him.
As the husband of an amazing Oncology nurse for 33 years (which eventually succumbed to a brain tumor at only 54 herself)...and seeing and hearing all the stories... I applaud your tenacity, and perseverance. It's not an easy thing to go through. God bless you on you journey into the future... and may you STAY cancer free forever!
Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony...two class acts! Can't wait to see them on tour this summer 🔥
I love the fact that when you listen to Eddie when he plays, it feels like he is alive at that moment. I am dead serious. Eddie lives on in his records.
I'm so lucky. I was there. I saw Van Halen open for Sabbath in Virginia in '78. Went out the next day and bought their album. Instantly they were my favorite band in the world. Their sophomore effort "Van Halen II" was the most anticipated album I've ever waited for in my life. The rest is history. RIP, Eddie!
Love Eddie but just can’t believe what they all did to Mike. I met Mike he’s the nicest guy . He’s a founding member and somehow holds no grudges. Glad I was there to see the rise of this great band.
Rest in peace Edward Van Halen
I got goosebumps when I heard him say I love you to his fam and friends. We miss you Eddie
Van Halen was the first band I saw in concert. They opened for the original Black Sabbath. Can't top that for a first concert!! Everyone was mesmerized by Eddie Van Halen on guitar!! When Sabbath came on stage the crowd started screaming "Halen Halen Halen!" It was a great concert and a great night. RIP Eddie Van Halen ❤
I met Eddie when I was living in a Sober living in 1991 in Burbank . He was in rehab on the third floor at Saint Joes Medical Center. When he took his 90 day chip at an NA meeting, I gave him a book called as Bill sees it.He gave me a big hug. After he got out of rehab, I saw him around at AA meetings. He sure remembered me. We smoked a few cigarettes a few times out in the back by ourselves. I guess it was my 15 minutes. I think he already had an operation for his tongue cancer. He told me that Valerie left him because he wouldn’t quit smoking anyway I gave him my number and told him if he wanted to go to a meeting with somebody just give me a call. The call never came. Meeting him was a highlight of my life. I’m just a garage musician, but I’ve always looked up to that man’s Musical gifts. I wish I could’ve helped him. I didn’t get sober until 2000’s ITS REALLY SIMPLE !!! How NOT EASY !!
The fact that Mike took that crap from the other 3 proves that he is a better man than I. I would have told them to take a long walk off a short pier.
This video hit hard. Edward, you will always be my favorite guitar player. You're dearly missed. Love you, brother. R.I.P. 😢
A very balanced doco. As a head and neck cancer surgeon, I've never seen tongue cancer caused by anything other than smoking, alcohol, recurrent trauma (chemical or physical), or betel nut juice. Eddie's lung cancer was a second primary, not a metastasis from his tongue. There's no way that was caused by a metal guitar pick!
I met all the guys from VanHalen (specifically Eddy and Dave) back in the 1970s before anyone knew them when they played at a local ballroom my girlfriend worked at on Thursday nights. We all used to hang out in the green room together. Some years later I had quit smoking and told Eddy one time talking to him that he should stop too. He didn't sadly. He loved smoking and drinking. Sad what happened to him later on, but he finally pulled out of it because of his son. That was the only thing that changed his life, but it was too late, the damage was done. We lost a great man way too early. Too many die from Drugs and alcohol. Several great losses in my lifetime. Hopefully, I won't see them for many years to come, but we will all be reunited someday. God bless them all. They gave so much to all of us here!
