Taki Udon has proved himself both that he can design good products but also that he has the ethics we want for open hardware that we need for a project like this (and to take care of his employees it seems)
Taki udon is probably the only one who i trust, he made a promise without any delays and delivered his products on time
meanwhile, mars is silent :P
At this rate, I expect Taki to kinda take over the entire FPGA market within the next five years. As long as he keeps his quality and consistency, i think everyone would be ok with it.
I want to see Game Cube, OG Xbox, Dreamcast, Playstation 2.
Sega Model 1-3, various other arcade boards, P2+3DFX and maybe even Dreamcast and Naomi 1.
Future is looking bright. I don't even have a MiSTer yet but it's good to know that in 10 years they might be capable of playing Dreamcast as well.
Thanks for keeping us up with the news! Btw what’s the game at 5:20?
The sequel to MiSTer. MoNSieur.
That's awesome! An upgrade that'll still support the old cores!?!? What more could you ask for! Thank you for the news!
Just bought a MiSTer recently and it's been amazing, I've been enjoying using it much more than when playing emulators on PC. FPGA2 sounds great! I'll def grab another.
Thanks for the summary! Very insightful. Certainly will be best to stay in Quartus for sure.
It'll be fun if this could FPGA a Pentium 2-based PC.
This should cover anything I could reasonably want from an FPGA. Mortal Kombat arcade games, really all of them, dream cast, Killer Instinct 1 and 2, Nintendo DS... pipe dream for 3DS but everything else really emulates well and whatever gains found in fpga is likely to be more work than the resulting payout.
My body is ready
I can see MiSTer going a similar way to the IBM PC in the 80s. Different people creating different hardware sets with varying amounts of power and at varying price points, but all compatible with each other. As long as existing cores work on any improved hardware, I can’t see why this couldn’t happen.
There aren't a ton of different FPGA around that would fit the bill for a Mister successor, so the Agilex 5 may very well be it. I believe the Mars was supposed to have the 138000 LE version of the Agilex as well. Not sure what sku taki has set his sights on, but if he manages to release something with the same chip for a more reasonable price, before Mars, that would be a riot.
wow 6x more Logic Elements than Mister FPGA board... it is very impressive.
Yes and remember mister FPGA 2 doesn't mean jack without decent support. With no new stable cores this hardware doesn't matter and it will take TIME! Don't expect this to be worth or near buying until 1.5 to 2 years tue earliest
