according to the wiki of MF Ghost (Intial D sequel):
"Takumi Fujiwara left Japan for the United Kingdom at the age of 20 to participate in the British National Rally Championship, driving for Toyota. On his 3rd year in the championship, he is finally awarded the title. During his time in the British Rally, Takumi took part in a variety of WRC events where he produced stable results. At that time it was discovered that he had a weakness on gravel, but excelled amazingly on tarmac.

Eventually, after signing a contract with Toyota, the driveshaft of his car snaps during a pre-season test run, sending him off-course into a ravine and crashing heavily, where he sustained critical injuries. The crash forces him to retire from competitive racing and go into rehabilitation. Despite this, he still remained close to the sport. After his recovery, he became an instructor at Royal Donington Racing School (RDRS), where he trained Kanata and Emma Green. As an instructor, Takumi's teaching style was not to teach everything by hand, but to give students a vague task and then let them figure out the answer by themselves."

sure we would all love to see his career and his progressing even more into motorsports, but let's face it. after a series that took 16 years with multiple stages and films its time to give the glamour to a "new takumi" and takumi being a mentor is THE best way to include him in this sequel

Takumi achieved his dream to the fullest, and the best way to make use of a character who's legend ended is to help another legend to be made... the legend of the almighty Kanata Rivington!

@Dxzieh

So takumi was a legendary street racer who’s time was never beaten on akina but he decided to go to England and become a teacher... what will he teach how to drift like a legend.. no it would be awesome to see him go pro in the credits and race again keisuke, GUARDRAIL MAN, DOUBLE CRASH MAN and all that in one final race but no

@Sentient6ix

Takumi getting injured only a year in to his professional career? That's heartbreaking. Like, really, really, really heartbreaking

@halo34jess117

Huh, Takumi a mentor.... funny how the Bunta rubbed off on him like that xD

@AnthroGearhead

Takumi gotten married to Mika that is all , him getting offer from any racing team would be a bonus

@YoBoyNero

I kinda wish I would of never found out about this cuz now I'm depressed about what happened to takumi :(. Out of all the things that could of ended takumi career of racing in general it ironically was a broken drive shaft

@SuperMechguy

thats a lame way to end Takumis career, not happy with the writer(s)

@dakotakruprzak7689

If you read it. It states that he was coming off of a wrc championship he won it in his 3rd year and he had multiple records, but the crash wasn’t his fault driveshaft broke and sent him over a valley. Also, he was 20 when he left Japan for England. He was about 24-25 when he had to retire which is sad.

@captaindragon133

>tfw you break your ae86 three times while racing

@hachirokuae8665

And me? i cant get the engine,Soon ill get a new engine

@zacklanois688

It would be really interesting seeing Takumi playing a mentor role for a younger driver. Maybe even a return of a heavily modded 86.

@thecake6635

RIP to Bunta's GC8

@notthebeastinus2786

They should've left him as a name in MF Ghost. Like, mentoring is fine, but no retirement. Made him like the Captain Falcon of the Initial D universe where he's so well known to be one of the best. I'd prefer it if he was made a goal for the mc of mf ghost to aspire to become while both of them are still in the racing business. At least that's what I think they should've done. However, what they went with does pose the possibility for a comeback if Takumi gets more involved in the story
Edit: I probably would be okay with what they did if MF Ghost had been written first and if Initial D had just been written as a prequel but it just don't sit right since it was something I connected with growing up. Man, it must be hard to one up and accommodate the fans when doing an after series like this

@ragedlore2735

btw im from 2020 and nothings changed with mf ghost takumis forgotten lol" theres only so much you can do with a character such as him, he lasted almost 20 years. The only thing i thought they could do with him was make a season or two of him in rally racing WITH the 86 done for it.

@brandondouglas4363

It’s 2021 I finally finish initial d and I wish I never found this video, I have no reason to live anymore.

@jiroweiler5883

Takumi tried to race in modern group B... dominated on termac got f*cked on everything else till permanent lesson... he should have taken the circuit racer offer back in the race with the MRS

@resoluteapib5708

Takumi soo legendary the author have to nerf Him...

@princepjohnson

Sucks that he got hurt, but he's like the new generation's Bunta now! And that's pretty damn cool.

@minhobang2626

Ahhhh how do you find a manga I wanna read it and I wish I could see Takumi married by Mika-chan that would be lit and why is he doing Rally?? Instead of being a FIA Drift racing ??? NANIDEEEE

@br4nz_sx

I think that takumi end well in rally cuz if You analize this takumi technic is about drift and in rally , drift is more necessary than in other motorsport except for formula d. And that's My little aprotation
