Aah, I see. It squashes the three fins to go around the rigid side, and then they press it back to (weakly) lock it in place.

Seems like it'll shift and gradually get looser from sideways forces, because it has to be mobile or you can't loosen it, but as long as you're not doing back and forth sprints maybe that's not an issue?

I kinda like the idea, though it seems like you could probably just use some flat springy metal clips and then they'd be easy to build by hand if needed. Tolerances don't need to be super tight.

What about pine needles? Here in the PNW they are the bain of maintenance. Always building up in the cracks. For the continuous deck / no cracks style i wonder how to clean the pine needles out
