I would be very careful when lasso(ing) stuff off your desktop, windows has a habit of getting confused, then renaming all your files the same name +(1), worst case windows takes the 1st files and copies it meaning all your files are gone (except the one windows copied). I try really hard not to store any docs on desktop, shortcuts are fine and I think that's what the desktop is expecting.
