@MrPDTaylor

Stigma against talking about salary is a tactic to underpay employees as far as I'm concerned.

@jackvial5591

Congrats! I started at $15/hr and was just happy to get my foot in the door. Once you get some experience you can start making a lot lot more.

@kevinschmitt97

I did a coding bootcamp in Dallas. Got a job a month later for $18/hr. After 2 months I got a job in NC for $70k/yr. After a year I went looking for another job and was offered $90k/yr but my job counter offered at $110k/yr so I stayed.

Thanks for sharing this story. I don't hear as many developers discussing the reality that a lot of code roles have you dealing with old technology. Also, I am glad you talked about salary. We all would love 60k and up but when you are just starting out (and are not in a big tech location), lower salaries are nothing to be ashamed of and scoff at until you get experience

@Ashley-rp4ui

Y'all I make that taking care of 26 patients as a nurse in North Carolina in a long term care facility. I literally am responsible for people's lives and that is all I get. That is why I am coding and switching careers. Thanks for the info, girl!

@RunOs3

45k isn't bad for a start, depending on where you live. I think this video is a good reference for a lot of new developers because there are some companies that will low ball you and say it's because you're new to the industry. I once got offered a whopping 25k and a year's worth of bus passes by a small start-up that made 10 million a year.

@lynzteee

I was at a conference where we wrote our job and salary (anonymously) onto post-its and stuck them on the wall... that was an interesting exercise.
I'm now currently at a company that has complete salary transparency for everyone in the company including founders- it's quite refreshing to be at a company that's so open :)

@ifuckedyourtiger

35k?? What the heck? I make that as a warehouse worker in California šŸ˜… glad you negotiated that

@Vapornator

This is why I subbed...Ty for being real.

@Mal-wk3uq

Not many tech youtubers talk about this . This is really helpful subscribed 😊

@nice2meetyou631

Listening to these kind of salaries from outside the US....
Que depression.... 😪

@thebrokenguitar1

My first salary as a developer was 60K but that was in Dallas, it rose quickly from there, but I had to hop companies for the raises.

@cristyfordham7255

ok so, here is my issue with this video. Even though you keep repeating that "YOU" felt that you were paid fairly, your tone seems to suggest that you are NOT happy. that paycheck of $1532.34 * 26 paychecks is 39840.84 a year which means you took home 88.53% of your paycheck. That is awesome! so for those on here who think that you got the shaft, well they're wrong. You did state that geographically that wouldn't suffice on the West Coast. This is the 1st video I've seen and I like what i saw, pay wise. My only suggestion would be that you emphasis your contentment with the situation more, unless you do live in a high cost of living locale.

@davidmendoza6667

After 42 years in IT I'm still surprised how often I use basic software development skills such as bash script development to automate linux system administration tasks that other team members are not comfortable developing. The skills you learn Today can very beneficial financially for the next twenty to thirty years.

@mohamethseck

Intro is dope. Finally an intro I actually like.

@ronnieross711

This video is great! And thank you for making it! I’m new, in a bootcamp school and doing research. Thank you so much!

@TheSushiandme

Why I'm scared to risk everything to be a web developer.... I make make more doing paperwork

@danainjax

I read your book. Truly got so much from reading through your experiences. Thank you!
