Broken ribs they can live with. No heart beat they can't
In CPR ribs breaking is the least of your worries. Instructor - for CPR, choking, drowning etc - if it doesn't feel like child abuse you're doing it wrong.
"I just broke a little girl's ribs" Babes, you just saved a little girl's life. I guarantee you she'd rather live to hug her mom and dad again than have perfectly intact ribs.
When I took cpr, the instructor warned us that if we were resuscitating an elderly patient, we would hear the ribs crack like twigs.
It's my worst nightmare to have to do CPR on a little kid, but I am trained and ready. And every parent I know would rather give their child pain management and TLC while ribs are healing than have to bury their child.
I worked in childcare for many years, and I always prayed that I never have to do CPR in any of my children
When i was a cadet, we were told to try not to break a rib during cpr and if done right, ribs wont break. It was drilled into us, to do exactly the right pressure.if we broke a rib on annie the cpr doll once during the 2 minutes we had to do cpr 1 person then we failed. We were told if we broke a rib we could be sued. Those years, not many people actually wanted to do cpr on a patient, in fear of being sued, it wasnt until 2002 when the good samaritan act come in when people couldnt actually be sued for Saving someones life when staying in their own knowledge, so no open heart surgery on the side of the road kinda thing from an untrained person. Many many years later i did the course again, and they told us there dont worry about breaking ribs, as people would prefer to be in pain than dead.
CPR is intense, but you can't hurt the persona you are working on at the time you are working on them. You might break a rib, but most folks would trade that for being alive.
it is almost expected to break some ribs when doing CPR. It happens more than half the times it's done.
All the patients I ressurrected had their ribs broken, maybe because they all were old people, but the important thing is that they came back.
Ive had cpr performed on me and in all honesty the broken ribs were worth it
AS a former EMT-B, this is real!!
Omg those are some good doctors ❤ poor girl, hope she’s ok and her dad ❤
Breaking ribs during CPR is common enough. Avoiding this can sometimes mean you're probably not doing it correctly. Press harder if it isn't working. Life over limb. Mouth to mouth is applicable mostly for drowning, & breathing issues, etc. as the cause.
The little girl has a broken rib but she can still turn in a wheelchair to wave bye?😮
Rib breaking can absolutely happen... it's more common in older ppl but it DOES happen
My mom broke my brothers ribs twice doing CPR. She said she’s never forgotten the feeling of sound. (He was terminally ill twice over. We got 10 wonderful years but the last few years, he was prone to crashing after really big seizures.)
This should be a part of first aid courses. Simulate a rib break. So that you're not scared of it happening.
So real I had cracked ribs from cpr when I stopped breathing but those paramedics saved my life without them I wouldn't be here and my son wouldn't exist I owe them so much as I apparently stopped breathing twice then my heart stopped at hospital. Everyone should know basic cpr for all ages
