@luisgomez4647

I scored a 50 on the Sociology Clep exam with 3 days of studying and now most colleges grant me 3 credits without affecting my GPA. Clep is the way to go.

@mgw2025

CLEP is an awesome way to get your freshman year requirements done! If you use ModState to study, they give you vouchers to take the tests for free (even covering the remote proctoring). This is a HUGE savings of time and money. Just check your university's requirements for how many and which Cleps they accept. For instance, my college, University of Maine Augusta, accepts almost every CLEP and up to 45 credits in Clep test credit toward a degree. What he's suggesting about doing competency tests through a university typically costs quite a bit of money compared to the CLEP route.

@Czelsc

CLEP is great. I've saved a lot of money and time just testing out of classes.

@mrmartywaring

I believe CLEP & DSST exams can be helpful & expedite the process. Personally, I completed 90 credits using Sophia & StraighterLine.

@GSU_Panther_Nation

I can see why the CLEP is so popular. This is especially true for STEM majors that require College Algebra and Precalculus as basic courses for advancing in their respective STEM majors. You would basically study for CLEP College Algebra and Precalculus, and then take the rest of the courses in your major at a college campus

@MB-ug4mp

I got 6 hours for English Composition and 6 for Humanities 50 years ago. CLEP is the way to go.

@louditalian1962

Clep is the way to go for the undergraduate. Skip all the easy courses and you will be able to cut nearly a year or more

@HashBandicoot356

My perspective would be to complete many of the Clep exams for pre requisites and then take some of the higher level courses in the course trees at university level. For example, If you never took formal math in college but have knowledge enough that taking a 3 month at a time courses for like pre calc or algebra. Take the CLEP for the pre reqs, take actual Calculus courses at uni level and do well at them. I see little drawback this way.

@nataliaveladez

Eh, it will save me 14credits & $9k. So I’ll do it 🤷🏽‍♀️

@IvanAlvarezCPACMA

I did CLEP many moons ago...I got 14 Credit Hours for Spanish (since I am fluent) and that was helpful to fill some elective credits.

@thisishowHEdidit

This is great info!!
I'm a former Purdue University Global student (by way of Kaplan) who has yet to obtain a degree. I too have done "start-stop" thing, but having turned 50 years old this past November and with many years of work experience (without the best pay), completing college has pretty much become a "bucket list" item at this point. I was considering CLEP, but now I'm going to inquire about the competency exam to see if it would be a good option for me. Thanks again and congratulations on getting your degree MUCH earlier than the typical 4+ years or so! PEACE AND BLESSINGS!!🙏🏾🙏🏾💝💝

@Yasmine91646

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I remember hearing about competency-based education years ago and I forgot what it was called! I'm glad I ran across this video while reading about CLEP!

@inhobiswinecellar9571

Prestigious degrees dont matter. What matters more from college is how you network. I think a unis level of “prestige” is subjective

@Jersey.D3vil201

I think CLEPing out is a good idea if you've taken the course, have some familiarity with the subject matter, or the exam is notoriously easy. I wouldn't try to learn a subject for the first time, then try to take a CLEP exam. If you want to go to a school that's a little more prestigious than the popular hackable colleges, it has definitely been my experience that you will run into roadblocks when it comes to CLEP and Sophia.

Most will accept CLEP in some capacity, but most will not accept Sophia at all. In fact, none of the traditional/brick and mortar colleges/universities with an online presence I researched accept Sophia, and I researched A LOT. That being said, out of the schools that are competency based, an overwhelming majority accept both. Determine your goals, do your due diligence and make absolute sure which school you want to attend before paying out any money. I paid for Sophia, only to switch to a school that doesn't accept their credit because I started researching after the fact. Don't be me lol

An employer only knows the school you graduated from. They don't know how you went about it. I wouldn't let that stop me from using CLEP and/or Sophia for credit.

@Chrissyhomeschooling

so basically dont do it if you want to go to a big college, but if you going to be an entrepreneur and just want the degree then it doesn't matteer

@lettilouvre284

I can’t see this degree hacking tip as beneficial because if you are mainly studying to pass a test you aren’t actually fully learning which is the point of getting your degree. You need to be able to fill comprehend the material so that you can excel at your job when you graduate.

@humanbeing8948

Your advice is weird. Getting a good gpa is achievable without having to take 50 million classes. Also, it's pretty clear that colleges and universities that boast "high quality" education have a bunch of people who got in through legacy (not good enough to get in without daddy's money) and have cheating scandals. Finishing school and having the diploma is the end game, by any means necessary. Higher education is literally a joke and expensive anyways. Work until death if you aren't a business owner or day trader. School doesn't prepare anyone with financial knowledge to not become a work slave. Why exactly to people need to choose wisely, just to continue being cogs in the work til you die machine?

@WillemTheUnsilent

I study interior design and I need to take math class…it’s useless and arbitrary for my degree and career. I need some credits to skip it.

Now I’m preparing for my CLEP college math, wish me luck! Hopefully my 4.0 GPA won’t be influenced by these stupid math classes.

@MaveRick-prepper

I earned 2 associate degrees in the military by using Clep.

@kimberlylee5815

I checked Clep math, look very hard. Not that much practice to go on. You think clep exam easy for you to pass.
