No joke these days some trailers feel like they've just condensed the entire movie into three minutes and I wonder what the point is in watching it when the trailer already showed me the first, second and third act.

@Troydpierce

I think Hereditary has got to be one of the best trailers ever. Straight up spoils the entire movie in front of you but I had absolutely no idea and felt completely misled while watching the full film. The first shot of the trailer is Charlie being buried but is cut in a way in which you only focus on the grandmas passing. It's as manipulative as the actual film.

@Tribdinosaur

My favorite trailer in recent memory was from Parasite. It revealed nothing except the premise, and the rest were compelling and intriguing scenes that made me wonder "why is that happening?", "what did she see?", "what did he whisper?" I was sold on the movie at that point. I was curious, and drawn in, and I wanted to see it. And not a single spoiler.

@dechangeman

I really liked the original trailer for „The Shining“, where they just showed the hallway and the flood in one long shot. The atmosphere and style of the movie was caught so well.

Edit: And Lynch’s Lost Highway Trailer with the Mystery Man Scene. Had me wanting to see it right away.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was a masterpiece of a trailer

@jetconway5995

I think the trailer for hereditary was actually very well done. Its intentionally misleading because it makes it seem like the movie is based around charlie, which makes it even more shocking when she dies in the first act and you are now left in the dark for what lays ahead

@TiesStripesEyeliner

Loved this breakdown! I teach first-year college writing and I use the structure of good movie trailers as an analogy for a well-constructed introduction paragraph; it should be something that introduces the premise, provides enough context to ground the viewer/reader, and presents the "problem" that will be solved by the movie (or the essay, in my case). I always show the trailer for "A Quiet Place" to illustrate this concept

@joydivision1976

I really liked the trailer for 'The Batman'. On point in my oppinion when it comes to pacing, selected scenes and music.

@blakeO34

I think a recent trailer masterpiece is Joker (2019). A well paced, slower take that shows the beauty of Gotham and how Arthur fits in with the the city. The trailer’s music choice is probably the best part because it reflects the bleak humor and darker tone of the final film. It’s also a pretty decent movie, so I guess that also helps.

@mjacinto

Mad Max: Fury Road’s was incredible. Awesome sound design.

@pyedog8674

You brought up a couple Fincher film trailers. I am here to say Gone Girl actually might be my favorite trailer. For someone with no knowledge of the book's premise, the trailer really acts as a microcosm of the first 2 acts of the movie, showing the first half of the film with the context presented in the film, and bits of the second half with no other context than an indication from the narrator that what we are seeing COULD be misleading.

It is so brilliant, i almost love the trailer's relationship to the movie more than i do the damn movie.

@estrellacasias

The Logan trailer was magnificent and a perfect song not just to talk about Logans experience but also the feel of the film from the tone of the song

@DAVADMDAVAD

I am JUST old enough to remember that trailer. It was terrifying. I will be 56 on Saturday. So, likely 1978? Few things frightened me back then, The Exorcist, maybe. But Ridley's trailer was terrifying. It's an odd feeling to sit in a movie theater and be terrified by something and at the same time be overwhelmingly excited at the prospect of experiencing that terrible despairing horror. I remember having goose bumps and saying something like "Wowee." Or perhaps "Holy fuck." But I was only 12 or 13 at the time.

@robertperner7196

I'm quite annoyed by recent horror movie trailers spoiling the best jumpscares. For example, near the end of 2018's Halloween trailer they already reveal Michael Myers in the closet and attacking the babysitter, yet when you watch the actual movie, it's trying to trick you into thinking that MM is in the garage, ready to kill the boyfriend before "surprisingly" showing up inside the closet after all. Wow, thanks for not only ruining the jumpscare, but also several minutes of suspense!

@mitchklein3701

The Logan trailer "walked the line beautifully" I see what you did there Mangold stan.

@leslierae6416

My Dad saw Alien(1979) in theaters, and he still to this day talks about the trailer for Alien, and how it hooked him and made him want to see the film really badly. That trailer was actually a pretty big deal at the time, it made quite a splash, and it holds up to this day.

@laartwork

Devil Wears Prada was just a 2 minute scene from early in the movie when Hathaway interviews for the job meeting Streep. It was so engrossing that when it ended it was jarring and I had to fund it what happens next.... that's an amazing trailer.

@peacefuldawn6823

I always find that the best trailers are made by YouTubers after the film has already come out lol

@sen5541

For me, the handmaiden 👌

@evandest1983

Recently I really liked The Batman teaser... close to perfection!
