KUDOS to Governor Newsome for speaking truth to power in the plain, honest and direct language that needs to be USED and HEARD by our leaders in government. Finally, someone in the public eye calls rump and his admin out for what they really are. I have been waiting since 2015 for a public official to say aloud that the emperor has no clothes. About time.

I just heard him say on the news that ANY protest against his military parade will be met swiftly and severely. That includes peaceful protest. I will be at NO KINGS on Saturday. Definitely!

Thanks Heather. As an LA person having worked with the Latino immigrant communities for years. What is occurring here is both tragic and so unnecessary. For me the most distressing piece is that many of the ICE, Border Patrol agents are Latinos themselves (likely children or grandchildren of immigrants). I know your focus is always a broader view of events, for those of us in the whirlwind the personal stories all around us are heartbreaking. The inhumanity and immorality of what is going on makes one’s head spin. 😢

I have protested peacefully in NYC for many years for various reasons. I marched with Occupy Wall Street and with Black Lives Matter- in all cases the violence came from outsiders that were deliberately interspersed in the crowds.

Heather, listening to you is always informative, educational, and provides me with absolutely critical information that helps me put the daily onslaught of terrible news into perspective. You are beyond helpful! I found todays’s chat calming and encouraging in a strange kind of way. It is helpful to know that my stress and worries about our politics ate not without merit and not uncommon. So many around me seem to be just drifting along, as though all is normal when it so obviously is not normal!

In Portland Oregon we are telling ICE agents they don't have to carry out Trump's orders and if they stop, we will find them meaningful jobs. Dictators can not carry on without the help of willing assistants.

My main concern is how to survive all of these financial and political crisis, especially in light of the US political power scuffle. The government has really called things more difficult for its citizens, and we can't sit back and bear all the consequences of the bad governance.
