For the pack hanging cord, you could save some time (and paracord) by tying alpine butterfly knots in the cord to make loops. 

To make the sling more comfortable, after tying the bowline around the forearm, go under the armpit and then up the back and over the shoulder to the other side of the body. Then tie the paracord to the wrist. This way you will not have so much pressure on the neck.
