I remember going to the Eckerd's drug store with my father and testing tubes when the TV went kaput and buying replacements for the bad ones right there.
These were in Grocery Stores until the early 1970s, a little later for Radio Shacks.
I remember those. Many older Radio Shacks and independent electronics stores still had those.
All the drug stores had them in the 1960's. It usually took a couple trips to nail it down fixing a color TV.
I remember bringing a bag of old tubes to the neighborhood K-mart back in the '60s. I was only about 13 at the time, and made the mistake of not checking in with the security guard at the entrance. It was scary when the store detective stopped me and asked to inspect the bag. All was good, though, and I remembered to check them in the next time.
That’s awesome! I have the same exact machine in my storage unit along with 60-70 vintage receivers. Maybe you want to come out to Cali?
In the 60s-70s up the street was ‘buckeye mart’ a small Kmart little store. They had one, neighbor gave me his broke sansui tube receiver. I think it was more tubes and money than I had……
I'm 45 but my old corner store has this there and the old people still used it when they closed they threw away alot of old stock tubes I took them but was young and sold them cheap but at least people kept there old radio s going alot were for a birdcage radio I think the guy said
I wonder does it test CB radio tubes too I would assume it does them all
Thrifty drugs stores had them when I was a kid.
I need a tube tester… I’ve got tones of tube amps no tester tho
I remember this when I was in grade school at our local store wow!
