I am a HUGE Boyz II Men fan and ALWAYS will be. I miss Michael "Bass" Mc Cary, but Shawn makes a valid point. You can NOT be bigger than the group and show up when you want to. As a brother, as a member of the group it is your responsibility to talk with them and let the guys know what is going on with you. If you don't work, you don't eat. I pray in the near future ALL four members will be back on stage together as they should be.
The lack of communication is obviously a problem, but I just don’t think he understands how chronic pain changes a person - it makes you depressed, irritable, unfocused, possibly hooked on painkillers (not saying he is/was), etc., and you may not act rationally or be considerate of other people. You would think that with maturity, they would become more understanding and look at it from his perspective…but I would also think that he’d realize that hairstyle was ridiculous, so I guess not.
Nobody can replace Mike.
I respect a man who said he got slam on the table. Most men won't tell that part so I belive what he is saying is true
To be fair to Mike, his condition was much worse than he told the group. But also he never told them that. So he is at fault for not explaining and working it out.
After all these years I finally heard the reasons behind Mike's departure, I never knew this, all the best to him and the group
Grateful to hear this conversation. Good they respected him by not bashing him. But they did understand that this can't be about 1 person in a group.
Having a heavy voice myself, Mike was the alpha in the group to me. Anything in life starts with a foundation, and he was that...he was the glue that held the harmony down...especially when Nate sang lead! I'm glad they didn't replace him. It would've been the equivalent of trying to replace a Melvin Franklin, you just can't do it!!
Many blessings to Boys-II-Men!!! We love you Shawn and thank you for providing clarification on the matter.
Shawn's solo album with Tim Kelly is a slept on classic
Recently back in March, Wanya Morris and Michael McCary saw and embraced each other at a New Edition concert.
Mike has Multiple Sclerosis ( not Scoliosis) which can impair one's mobility and mental state with brain fog. The back problems are common because many Multiple Sclerosis patients experience extremely painful Sciatica and Pantar Fascitis. As a matter of fact, many patients are misdiagnosed because doctors never look for Multiple Sclerosis which can be more deadly in men than in women.
I appreciate this conversation. There was a time where I was mad because the four was no more, but this conversation sheds more light...wish the group and Mike the best
You can see and feel the loss of Mike affected the group to this day. They just wasn't the same. They started out with five. Marc Nelson of AZ YET was part of Boyz II Men also.
I think not adding someone else was a good moove. It kept it real, authentic, even if we all miss his voice in the harmonies.
People often confuse the term "no love lost." It does not mean you love someone and you still love them. It actually means two people dislike eah other and since there was never any love to begin with, then there is no love lost.
I watched the whispers documentary and was amazed at how they took care of certain members financially even when they were not able to perform. There the only group i ever heard do that... Saying he's my brother and treating him like a brother is two different things.
LOVE BOY'S l l MEN!! GREW UP TO THIS LEGEND, THE HARMONY ! WAS ALWAYS A THRILL FOR ME TO LISTEN TO, I STILL LISTEN TO YOUR SONGS THEY ALWAYS TOLD A STORY I COULD RELATE TO AND YOUR MUSIC BROUGHT ME PEACE AND COMFORT A LOT GROWING UP THANK YOU I APPRECIATE AND LOVE YOU 💙💛💜💕💞💞
well as a lupus patient who lives in constant pain at some point the mental pain surpasses the physical pain and you become mean and angry especially to those who are closest to you, ik im dealing with that and no matter how i swear to my self that my children and my husband did not wish this disease upon me and in that respect for as supportive as they are they don't deserve my nastiness. i'm not sure if Mike was dealing with that and took it out on his "brothers "
