I am in Venice today and tomorrow we fly back to Toronto, Canada. We fly to Heathrow the on to Toronto…I have a new long flight day hack….use a thin light days pad and bring a few. Changing this makes you feel fresh when you cannot change your underwear…..what a difference. I wish I had done this for earlier flights. Hope this tip helps a few ladies out there.
I'm planning my first international trip and I've been a bit stressed over the idea of having to carry all of my prescription bottles with me - I had no idea whatsoever that it was possible to have my doctor arrange blister packs for me! I am so glad I found your channel Laurie, all of the videos I've been watching and nobody has mentioned this!
Advice from Captain John, a friend’s son-in-law who is a pilot with a large international airline: Do NOT wear synthetic fabrics. Yes, leggings or “travel pants” can be comfortable, BUT In the extreme emergency of a fire, synthetics will melt onto your skin. Natural fabrics will more likely smoulder, or can be quickly extinguished with minimal burns to your skin. Cotton, linen , bamboo, wool, and cashmere are best.
I’m a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and I have T1D x 44yrs. To keep meds cool such as insulin, one of my favorite products I use is a Frio. It’s small and keeps my insulin perfect when I travel. Plus I’ve never had security issues with it
I cannot thank you enough for the tip on CBP Mobile passport. We were the only ones in line from our return trip from Rome and we cut off a long line of people. This was wonderful after being on a plane for over 10 hrs. Thank You again!
Great tips as always. I live in Australia so everything is long haul!! I recently travelled for 4 months around Europe. I ditched my toiletries bag as it took up too much room- I used zip lock bags. In fact if I had one tip I would say take zip lock bags. I have been travelling on aircraft for over 50 years and I cannot wear a neck pillow for the life of me. I also had air tags which were the best as I got lost and did not know where my hotel was so I just used find my tracker and got directions back to my hotel to my luggage! I also take electrolytes always and if I run out I just put a bit of salt in my water.
Happy Mother’s Day Laurie. I love your tips. I used your suggestions for my first trip to Europe last year.
when I can't sleep, I drink. Hope this helps. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Laurie, for all the good tips. I have acquired 3 lightweight puffer jackets over the last 10 years and each of them has pocket "liners (?)" on the inside large enough to fit an iPad Mini. I started using these back in the days of Norwegian Air flights with their very strict weight limits. So no need to buy a vest if one wouldn't wear it otherwise.
Happy Mothers Day Laurie! Great reminders… I did a double take when you said “a seat like a mammogram..” 😂 I nearly spit out my coffee. One suggestion on the compression socks: ensure you get the correct size/length; there should not be any wrinkles nor folding over. The top should be two finger width below the bend of back of knee. If socks are slightly long for you just ease up on the pulling as you pull them on.
These are great tips Laurie! I travel to Asia and there are some airlines that will not allow you to put your power bank in the overhead bin, it must be in the personal item in case of fire. I would advise anyone flying on an Asian airline to check their rules. In addition to the address and phone number of the US Embassy, I also research the emergency numbers for police, fire and ambulance. Even if not in an English speaking country, there may be one person who does, but I print a paper with phrases to use in an emergency that is written phonetically, and in the language of the country for when help arrives.
You always have great tips and tricks, Laurie. I always look forward to your videos
Another great video. I always learn something new.
As a senior, maneuvering your carry on and personal bag on/off the plane can be difficult. I offer to have my carry on bag checked at the departure desk, so then it is free. 😊And pack emergency shirt and underwear etc in personal bag. A lot more stress free!
For meds: use a hairdryer to gently heat and peel up your bottle label. Restock to a small plastic zipper pouch. I have some from Amazon that are perfect for up to 3 weeks supply. Way less room than the big bottles. None of my pharmacies will repackage to smaller quantities. Be sure your meds are legal at the domestic federal level, and in all the countries you travel to or transit through. Love this channel!
I’m a British passport holder with Global Entry and it really is the best thing ever for regular travellers
I used to take Sudafed right before landing ( 30 mins before ), because a doctor told me that'd help me to prevent ear pain & worked always ! But, yes , it got banned in Japan !! So, I had to find alternative ways . Muceinex works & saline nasal spray helps .But sucking super sour or spicy candies 🍬( to promote / increase saliva )helps the most as well as wearing ear plugs at the same time & close ear flaps from behind to minimize the space ( gap )between ear holes & ear plugs !! While sucking super sour or spicy candy ! This way, you can prevent or stop ear pain on a plane & it's drug free !! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💕💞
Carry the meds with the original prescription with the name of the doctor, type and dosage of the medication, in the original pharmacy bottle.
I have a zipper pouch with a wrist strap. So I don't have to fumble with trying to get to my bag, the pouch carries in-flight essentials: EarPlanes, portable charger, snack, charging cord/block, etc. It is always on my wrist. I once saw someone drop their phone & it ended up a couple rows away 😱. This eliminates that worry.
