8:11 A yellow means "prepare to stop," but only if it is safe. When I approach a traffic signal that turns yellow, I look in the rear view mirror and gauge how far back the vehicle is behind me. That trucker was following way too closely to stop safely -- hence the rear-end collision. The SUV would have been safer to proceed right through the intersection.

So, instead of letting a car hit the side of their truck, truckers will swerve into oncoming lanes and risk killing someone and facing manslaughter charges. This seems a bit counterintuitive to their goal, but to each their own.
