I love that he named it after the lake nearby instead of after himself or some fictional city he likes. That was actually really cool of him.
I'm getting an MA in archaeology and one of my profs also discovered a Maya settlement using the internet and remote sattelite images! His name is Dr. Andrew Kinkella. He was looking at Belize on Google maps during COVID and noticed a little "blip" when he moused over a certain area. Next time he went to Belize he checked it out and there was a pyramid! It's amazing what we archaeologists can discover now without ever touching the ground or digging.
Dude is giving hot Hollywood movie archaeologist realness.
He’s even got the cool jacket c’mooooonnnn this guy’s basically Indiana Jones but without causing untold millions in collateral damage to priceless archaeological sites
Angkor Wat comes to mind. Everybody thought it was only one structurural temple area. Meanwhile it is the main temple area of a city the size of NY. Also found via laser topological archaeological usage and findings. So madly interesting!!!

What's most interesting to me is that he said it was an urban landscape 1200 years ago...that's actually not all that long ago. I think of this area as far, far older and removed from who we are today and maybe part of that perception is precisely because the big stone structures seemed so isolated in wilderness. This a cool reminder that history is much closer (literally) than we think...makes me want to know so much more about their history and culture!
This was a great Short. Solid snippet of content, felt complete yet inspired a desire to learn more, and ended w/ a genuine invite to watch the full video.
That is the most archaeologist looking jacket he could’ve picked for this interview
This man was my professor as this research was coming out, I have funny stories from being in his class. Really nice guy.
If he's a child, im a fetus

I spent a week hiking from Guatemala to Belize in 1995-96. The Guatemalans I stayed with trekked me around places and just told me flat out all over the peninsula are cities that were just covered by jungle. I got to hike up several hills only to see Stone underneath the roots and realize that they were right. Locals have known about this for a long time.
This channel is so well done
This video unearthed the bisexuality of a lot of people, and it didn't take LIDAR.
you forgot, simping for both
this is the stuff my very young self dreamed of in the 70's. Stripping away the trees without even touching them. Technology at its finest.
