Mike Tyson recently explained that he was trying to get away from Iron Mike Tyson. He said he doesn't workout anymore for fear of that guy returning. He said it so casually, it actually quite chilling.

My father was a former boxer, and was cultured, charming, a talented musician and well liked by so many. However, we owned bars in Atlanta and occasionally had to deal with bad dudes. One night at closing, by ourselves, we were confronted at knife point by 2 fairly big robbers. That’s when his alter ego kicked in. When they least expected, and I had no idea this was coming, he took out the biggest with a right cross, and immediately the second with an overhand left. The first guy tried to get back up and fight, my dad turned his face into minced meat. The other guy was out, and I had to drag his sorry butt out of the bar. I was like maybe 17, and just a spectator at an incredible combat performance, it was shocking and awe inspiring. This was 1977, and today my dad is gone, but from that memory, if need be, his powerful persona at that moment is MY alter ego.

the ‘alter-ego’ is a norm and almost a necessity for athletes and even a lot of entertainers. To the average person though, this is ‘weird’ or ‘crazy’

Alter ego = eliminate nervousness. Because it feels like it is not you anymore and you care less about the negatives.

David Bowie, when talking about how he wrote songs, said that he could never really write about myself, he found it much easier to write about other people and how they felt. Which is why he created all his Alter Egos like Ziggy Stardust.
