I was recently laid off from work, and I decided to take early retirement at 47 years old. I got notice around 6 months ago that I was being made redundant, so I've had quite a bit of time to prepare for it. However, when I was actually laid off from work, I was still quite shocked.

I'm Vinny - I'm from a poor working class background. I've worked in technology (software) for over 25 years (and in manual/retail jobs before that) - I've just been made redundant for the second time in my career and decided to retire early. I'm in a good position financially to retire early and I've decided to take early retirement and live off my investment income until I can draw my pensions.
