OUHK - English Medium Instruction: A Cost-benefit Analysis

In this programme, Prof. Ernesto Macaro, Distinguished Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the Centre for Research and Development in English Medium Instruction at the University of Oxford, addressed two questions of fundamental importance: Does EMI actually improve students’ English, and does any such gain come at the cost of content learning? Prof. Macaro surveyed the current research that attempted to answer these questions, with an emphasis on Hong Kong, and then weighed up some of the costs and benefits of EMI.
