The Indian Army has launched an internship program to engage young talent in emerging technologies, aligning with its modernization efforts and focus on non-kinetic warfare strategies.
Announced by Lt. Gen. Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Staff (Information Systems and Communication), this initiative is part of the Army’s 2024-25 “Technology Absorption Year,” emphasizing the adoption of advanced tools to address modern military challenges like cyber warfare, AI, and quantum computing.
Recognizing the increasing role of cyber-attacks and digital manipulation in conflicts, such as in Ukraine, the Army is recruiting domain specialists and interns for roles in cybersecurity, AI, machine learning, and related fields.
Recruitment focuses on the Territorial Army and Regular Army, requiring postgraduates for officer roles and graduates for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), with advancement opportunities tied to performance. This strategy ensures the Army remains competitive in an evolving, tech-driven operational landscape.
The internship program, part of the Prime Minister’s Internship Mission, invites university students and professionals to collaborate with the Army's technological departments.
Interns can contribute to key areas like AI, 5G, robotics, blockchain, and cybersecurity, gaining exposure to projects linked to UN Peacekeeping missions and the Center for Land Warfare Studies.
