China warns US to “not play with fire” on Taiwan issue after Hegseth’s remark at Shangri-La Dialogue

China, on June 01, condemned US Defence Seccy Pete Hegseth’s remarks at Shangri-La Dialogue. Do “not play with fire”, China warned US over Hegseth’s remarks on issue of China-Taiwan tension. Hegseth, at the high-profile defense summit called China ‘real and potentially imminent’. He accused China of pushing allies in Indo-specific region to increase defence spending. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Hegseth’s remarks ‘defamatory allegations, false’. Chinese statement further accused US to be primary source of instability in the Asia-Pacific. Hegseth, at Shangri-La Dialogue, said that Indo-Pacific region priority for Trump administration. ‘Beijing preparing to use military to alter balance of power in Indo Pacific’, said Hegseth. However, China reiterated that Taiwan issue is purely their internal affair. US should never imagine it can use Taiwan question as leverage against China: it further said. On South China Sea, China denies any issue of freedom of navigation or overflight in region.
